Have you ever hit collector burnout? What pulled you out of it?

Been dealing with this burnout last year and the beginning of this year. Mainly was just buying things to fill up my shelves to prove that I love physical media and I wasn’t collecting the movies I love, took a break and have started curating the collection and I’m mainly buying the titles I love and not worry about limited edition 4K steelbooks or any new releases

Probably most people need to reflect on their collecting to figure out what they are trying to collect.

Since I started buying home video, or physical media or whatever, I don't think I've ever stopped. It's increased and decreased over time, depending on how much free money I have. But it's never stopped. Especially since moving out after high school.
I don't really do streaming and back in the day I didn't really do cable, so my entertainment at the end of the day when I want to relax is popping in a movie. So I've always just bought movies.

It should be a hobby not a job

I have always charted my own course, when it comes to media consumption.  Not driven by what's on the shelves, but on where my interests lie.  BTW, the first season of "Camelot" is great.  You'll really enjoy it.  I love a "one season wonder."  Have a bunch in my collection.

Man, I can't even think what level I'd need to go to so as to suffer from burnout in a hobby like this. If I see something that I really want or seems interesting enough, then I'll get it. But 70% (to be charitable here) of stuff coming out I likely have no real interest in buying, or just makes me roll my eyes over how expensive it is, so my buying habits are already rather focused (smallish?) that I've yet to lose that sense of excitement of getting something new. But then I know I'm just way too particular over what I allow to grace my shelves, so I simply won't stress over what I may end up missing over what I end up actually getting.

When I was single in my own place collecting was so easy. I would watch everything the week I bought them. Now as i am married moved into my wife’s house i had to pivot because it was a blended home and i had to put my movies in drawers instead of shelves. I’ve run out of room. I can only watch in the bedroom because we only stream in the living room. My wife doesn’t share my collecting passion. I am very picky with what i get and have a hard time culling my collection because i already did that when i moved. I have so many unwatched movies now that I don’t know when I will get to them. I also read and play video games.

I loved Dumb & Dumber.
I’ve bought a few older blu rays .
I just bought the Blu Ray Crocodile Dundee dual set for $6 and it’s uncut unlike the 4k.

I loved Beethoven growing up 👌👌

Collector for coming on to 40 years. I’ve just reached a point of when does it ever end. At what point is it done and I enjoy what I own. I’ve reached that point. It’s time to divest myself of the things that don’t give me joy and focus on enjoying the parts of my collection that do. Burnout is real, but is different to fatigue which I think is the step prior to burnout and how you respond to these feelings is going to be different for each collector.

Viva a mídia física 👍 👍 👍

2:37 I thought this would be more about limited storage.
I don’t want to devote my life or home to storing this stuff.
I’m more excited about digital, which has its own drawbacks - many of which aren’t the ones most people complain about - but physical storage space isn’t among them.

And I don’t want to be that guy who dies and his family has an insane amount of 💩 to sift through or throw out.

Wishing you all well with it. Halfway through the video and it hasn’t been addressed. So, probably not for me.

Especially because I am mostly focused on 3D movies.

Managed to find Weird Science for cheap on blu ray too 👌👌👌👌

For a King Arthur period series try Merlin. Whole series is free on the Internet Archive.

I also had fun with Renfeild.

When I get burn out I start flipping movies on marketplace ❤

I don't know if they changed it since I last spoke about it, but I've since discovered that KL will actually ship to me. The only people who won't, near as I can tell, are Criterion.

Oh man the burnout is the worst when you try  too hard to add to the collection just for the sake of finding a cool thrill like you speak of to no avail. But its days like today I found two great random in store pick-ups at Walmart. I got the Hit man, directed by Richard Linklater, starring Glen Powell for 5 bucks! Looking into it, I think its a Canadian only release. And Krull for 6 bucks! Watched Hit Man this evening and had a good time with it being a blind buy and looking forward to revisiting Krull after years of not seeing. I even had Krull coloring book back in the day.

Im a huge fan of jim carrey films but dumb and dumber just never clicked with me. I have not gotten burnout yet but i have slowed down now that i got most of what i wanted but i still find new ones to add that i want either new or old film but it has slowed abit.
