I had a minor production error and left off 11/22/63 from the Dark Tower Extended Order #3: you can include it with the other books to read between volumes 4 and 5.  Also, somehow Cell, From a Buick 8, and The Institute didn't make it into the video.  However, they are all horror genre and would not have made my short list.

Way back in 1989, I struck up a conversation with a girl on my college campus when I saw she was reading the same book I was. Misery.  We began dating, and shortly thereafter she gave me a gift subscription to a Stephen King book-of-the-month club. First edition hard-backs every month. I have now read every Stephen King book multiple times, and am getting ready to take another run at some of my favorites (including the extended Dark Tower list from this video). And yeah, shortly after that wonderful gift, I asked her to marry me. We've been together for 36 years now.

Who’s here after Ian Gubeli ❤

Ian Gubeli sent me here 😊

I've always admired Stephen King, but never even thought of reading any of his work because (like many) i thought it was all horror! I've now gone down a rabbit hole watching 30-50 year old interviews of him and I'm so intrigued by his demeanor and his craft!! Cant wait to use this guide and I'm so excited to start my journey. Thank you!!

I love that you included Needful Things. If I had to choose one book to somebody to give them a feel for King‘s novels, it would be Pet Sematary. But Needful Things has always been my favourite.
For me both these books capture the essence of King‘s horror: everyday human flaws cranked up by a nasty supernatural twist.

I decided to start with some of the Bachman books as he wrote most of those before Carrie was published. The Running Man and The Long Walk are essential, the others are probably not necessary. Then I'd go chronologically on publication: Carrie, Salems' Lot, The Shining, The Stand, The Dead Zone. After those you can probably just focus on the great books he wrote and skip some of the others along the.way. The jump in his writing quality from Carrie to Salems' Lot is really something. Its good to see his development. I hear Different Seasons, Night Shift and some of the other short story collections are worth reading too. Im early in my reading - only just got to The Shining. Unbelievable, its likely to turn out to be my favourite.

I'm over halfway through Salems Lot and have been afraid of the dark the last 2 nights. Such a great book ao far

The long walk is the best starter for everything Stephen King in my opinion

Would you suggest reading wind through the keyhole in order then? You didn’t seem to really emphasize one way or the other and just kinda described it there chronologically

The first Stephen King book I read was Blockade Billy, which is a novella a little over 100 pages in length. I won the book, which is a first edition hard back,  in a silent charity auction. It's a baseball/horror story. For anyone who like me is a baseball fan and would like to read a first King book, it's not a bad choice. And it's included in the anthology The Bazaar of Bad Dreams. Got to love that book title.

A little late to the party, but as a constant reader myself, I just had to say your collection of Stephen king books is truely beautiful to behold! All hard back, all pristine.....just chefs kiss!!

I would say to anyone thinking about getting into Stephen King start with The Stand, 11/27/64, or It.

You get what King does best AND worst all in one.

I also suggest Sleeping Beauties, it's structured in small digestible chapters and you still get what King does well.

Any of his Short Stories or Novella collections are great.

Don't start with The Dark Tower but do NOT miss it!

I started with Misery, got hooked, and read Needful Things thanks to your recommendations. Now I’m on book 3 of The Dark Tower, and I’m absolutely loving it!!

Wow Josh, thanks so much for putting this comprehensive recommendations video together. I have only read 3 Dark Tower books, Pet Sematary and Fairy Tale, so I have some catching up to do. I always get decision paralysis when I think of picking up my next King read, so this is invaluable. Will definitely be going back to this one when I am next in the mood for some King, you are incredible!

Sir, thank you very much for this presentation.  I have always been curious about Mr King' s works and now know where to begin. Just finished Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank redemption. Masterfully piercing!

Started reading last year, read Pet Sematary, Misery and Different Seasons, currently reading and loving IT

Thx you, this was great, not confused anymore on how to approach all this book. Love the work you’re doing.oh by the way, if you have an extra it paperback original cover copy that you would like to sell let me know.

Excellent video Josh! I hope this brings more viewers to your channel. It's very well made and concise. I've read most of your main recommendations. Working on the Dark Tower now (on book 4). Still have It and Salem's Lot left of the big hitters. It's been a fun journey for sure. Misery is the only one I would have highlighted that you didn't.

Always say the same thing Different Seasons is the perfect gateway to King.
