The first review that I’ve watched that mentions the rear biased riding position.. Bravo Phil, and I couldn’t agree more.
I sat on one in my local dealer about 3 weeks ago and realised straight away it’s a deal breaker (5ft 7in with presumably short arms to match 😉)

Hello Phil, a splendid review as usual. Testing the new CB1000 models is really tempting. I personally like the simplicity of the new retro bikes in general. Maybe that’s why I ride a MG and a Vespa.

Good one Phil, you certainly teased out the attitudinal nuances of this particular bolide.  Indeed, that exhaust note was well captured, it came over as unique to the CB1000F and it would seem to have been "engineered" into the bike.  I remember references to the CBX1000 development bikes back in the 70s having different exhaust sounds, apparently one had been "tuned" to have the same howl as an F4 Phantom jet, they got cold-feet and dropped it - what a shame, I'm sure many would have bought the bike just for that ominous wail............

Should be the z900rs for me as a 70s kid and big Z1 fan, but that honda just has a muscular look , and a sensible seat height.....hurray!!!! I'll live with the cramped knees.
As an added small gripe im always disappointed following a z900rs, the styling viewed from the rear, really lacks the original Z1 presence.

The bike … gotta be honest, not for me. That engine is pig ugly to look at, full stop. The exhaust header pipes and the cooling plumbing on the left hand side, bloody awful.
Having said that, no doubt if I rode one I’d love it. But I couldn’t shell out that money (for any bike tbh) so even a lottery win and I’d look elsewhere, the side by side images you presented with the Z900 show how a manufacturer can make a nice looking engine out of a modern design (just not sure what they were thinking with that lop sided rear shock 🤦‍♂️)

Hi Phil, that CB1000F is so pretty but for cruise control and electronic suspension I would buy the GT.  Honda really are making some incredible motorcycles, recently.

very nice review... one hint: you do not need the comfort seat. I bought it and combined it with a 20mm bar riser. Kept the bar riser on the biker but prefer the lower seat. The bike feels more agile and is easier to get through hairpin corners. I guess it feels best as it is. save your money and just use the standard seat.

Hi Phil, back in the day I ordered a CB900F. But when I got home I realised that it was actually 903cc therefore in an "unlimited" insurance group....so back to the motorcycle dealer the next morning and changed the order to a Suzuki GSX1100E which was great. Looking back now I wonder if I would have been happy with the Honda.

Music refs sadly went mostly over my head, Phil, but I would have chosen the Honda over the 2025 Z900RS. However, I have a 2026 model & it's so much better than the previous gen, I absolutely made the right decision not to wait almost a year from putting down a deposit on the CB. Plus, I had a Z1000J2 back in 1982, so with the period correct grab rail and a centre stand, I'm back in my twenties every time I go for a ride!
Completely agree with you about the Wispa bar too. They taste like dog chocolate, zip all cocoa solids in them now.

Imagine explaining to someone who wants to buy this bike from you that the engine is OK and it's not dodgy.
