I’ve been watching your U2 reactions since your first music video reactions. I enjoyed them then & I am enjoying your deeper dives now!! I’m so glad you are going to watch their LIVE shows. That is definitely their Superpower!! Thank You!! ENJOY!!
It's pretty amazing how good they were live at this time. Under a Blood Red Sky turns out to be one of their best albums because it captures the magic of their live performances. Edge is everywhere and dominates with all the right notes or swathes of noise at all the right times, not to mention his backing vocals are stellar. The songs have been improved from their studio versions because they've played them so many times live. They really breathe in a way that makes the album versions feel a bit constrained.
It's probably better for bands to tour first and then go into the studio to craft a new album of the new songs they played on that tour than the other way around.
My favorite part is when Bono says goodnight for the 80th time and he's actually walking offstage then they start "I Will Follow" and he seems surprised and has this big smile on his face when he goes running back on.
A friend had an extra ticket to see them that night, but really, the weather was so cold and rainy, a lot of us thought the band would postpone the show. I think a third of the sold out show didn't go. So I turned down the offer...and even decades later, I still kick myself for not going. While there's no official The Unforgettable Fire video release, there is a live performance from Dortmund Germany 1984. It's about an hour long.
Listening to electric co being performed live on a cassette a friend had whilst being off my head on some beverages round a camp fire with friends in the middle of nowhere on a summers eve when i was a teen was how i was first introduced to U2 and boy did it leave a lasting impression.
I wish i could been there...what a beautiful haunting Concert...the Crowd, the Fog and the Flames at Red Rocks...the Sound ...the Edge`s and Bono`s Voices ...Magical !!!
This shot using old tech, where light streaks were captured in the camera. I think it actually adds to the dynamic of the video. I also love how the guitars are tethered to guitar chords.
I was 15 and already an absolute music fanatic when this aired on MTV. I was already listening to U2, but this now iconic show was my first look at what a live show for this type of less than FM radio mainstream rock band could be. It also put the Red Rocks Amphitheater on my “must do” list. Now at age 57, I’ve seen over two dozen shows from different bands there. The atmosphere of that place is unmatched. I’ve never seen anyone react to this whole show. Superb reaction, man! Subbed.
Recuerdo que tenia 14 y compre el cassette bajo un cielo rojo sangre" no me cansaba de escucharlo de ahi en mas amo esta banda por siempre!! En vivo son los mejores!!!!❤😊
I've been a huge U2 fan since about 1984/85 - I was nine but had a babysitter who would listen to them, so I got into them because I thought she was cool. :) I'm turning 50 this year, and U2 is literally the soundtrack to my life. And I'm so excited for you to take the live concert journey, because while their studio work is good, their live concerts are FANTASTIC. There is rumor of a new full length album out this fall, which will hopefully be followed by a tour. Please go check it out in person if that happens. Something magic happens in the room that can't be replicated. Even better if you're on the floor near the stage. If you love them this much on video, you will be transformed in ways that are hard to explain when you're in the room. And while they are 43 years older than this video, they still have the magic on stage. Plus, you've never met a better fan base. There is a lot of love in the room that comes from the band, but is contagious to everyone there. Oooh, I can't wait for you to see all these great live performances. Thank you for falling into the U2 wormhole - I've loved watching you!
Concert Tour...well...Live is where they live, so hang on to your hat. I'm so glad you worked through their catalogue before this. It will give you a close approximation to the Real Thing. 'Twilight' the cat and into the heart IS U2 to me.
