Nostalgia makes things look and sound so much better.

Having the schematic is a real bonus for any good repair tech. Very nice amp, I love the EL84 sound.

I had the Scott 222  and it was really special.

Excellent restoration on that Scott! One thing that always worries me in these videos is seeing people plug these vintage gems straight into modern 125V+ wall outlets. In my workshop, where I run and maintain a quite large collection of vintage tube gear (from Japanese SE setups to heavy-duty monoblocks), a manual step-regulator / variac is an absolute must-have. Keeping the line strictly at 110V not only saves the heaters of irreplaceable tubes but also shields those precious, original power transformers from modern overvoltage stress. Keep up the amazing work! :yougotthis:

its like al old car you got to love it!!

The nice thing about tube amps of this vintage is the tubes are still available. I have a solid-state Scott 342C receiver and one of the big problems is that all the transistors are obsolete and substitutes have been hard to find. But, boy, does it sound great!!

Great job, Aaron! I’m also intrigued by a tube amp. I just haven’t had the courage to go buy one yet.

I bought a functioning Fisher 800C about 9 years ago for $550. I subsequently spent $500 on recapping and over $1,000 on two additional repair sessions, along with $350 for a reproduction wood cabinet. Had I been patient and gone to the right tech in the first place I may have saved some repair dollars. But with this tech your unit sits in the cue for up to six months or more which is exactly what happened the two times he worked on it. All of the original Telefunken signal tubes are fine. For power tubes I use the Tung Sol 7591A which sound great, and most importantly are true repros of the original tube size, matching their height so a cabinet can be used. The other repros are too tall to fit inside. And for all this trouble what do I get? Glorious sound! I’m glad to have made this purchase and have it in my collection in seasonal rotation with a Croft Phono Integrated. I also enjoy the fabulous Pioneer SX-850 in my den system currently serving as a preamp to an Italian Lector VM 200 power amp.

The first time I heard a properly restored vintage tube amplifier, I finally understood why people stay loyal to them. They may require more care, but the way they present vocals and acoustic instruments keeps pulling me back.

I switched from solid state to tubes about 6 years and haven’t looked back. Currently I own a pair of Eico HF-22 tube mono-blocks, a Scott LK48 that is being restored, a pair of Radio Craftsmen C-400 (from the early 1950’s), and a Decware Single Ended Triode  copy that puts out about 2 watts per channel!

you got a good deal, regarding rolling tubes, cartridges, dacs, etc to change the sound, rolling speakers will give you the most meaningful change

I have a vintage Scott integrated tube amp also!

I love your amplifier Aaron, it's a beauty! I have a 1936 Silvertone radio and three others from the 1940s. Believe it or not the 1936 radio is the only one with all original parts because it was my grandparent's and I know the history. Ninety years old and all original just blows me away. Back in the 90s it quit working for a year and then came back to life! BTW if your tape input is a tape monitor loop, you can connect a headphone amp with RCA ins/outs and remote volume control. That's what I've done with a couple of my vintage amps.

I really enjoyed this episode. I like the history of electronics also and have a 1963 "The Fisher" X100b integrated and matching FM tuner. Also have a Fisher console from 1961 that I restored the amplifier and record changer and it sounds great. I have a working 1934 Crosley and 1957 Grundig also. The fact that these pieces of history can be maintained, repaired and enjoyed for decades is fascinating to me. HH Scott, Fisher and Pilot are relatively affordable USA made tube Hi Fi that can be fun to work on and listen too. Playing well recorded records from that time period on this equipment really brings me back to a time before I was born or just a little kid.

Those old tube amps have a greater soundstage for my ears

I enjoy your content, and honest approach to the hobby. I grew up in High School in the mid 90's and had a Harman Kardon receiver so I was always partial to that company, when I was older and learned more about the history of the company I tracked down a vintage HK 330 - loved that amp only paid $70 for it off FB market, then spend over $700 the next few years on it. LOL, I currently have  modern ROTEL integrated and matching CD player but I would like one day to revisit some vintage harman Kardon

Beautiful device! Thankyou for restoring her and I hope you love every minute of listening to her xx

Have an old 1962 eico st 70. It is magnificent. Requires a bit of fiddling to keep it going.

I run a ToneX One modeler through a Marshall AS50R on the first channel for guitar and I’m never out of options. I run an entirely different instrument on the vocal/2nd channel and it’s clear as day. I use the amp as my monitor and control center for my sound. I use the DI out to the band mixer and it works great for a small venue.

The LK299 was sold in kit form, someone built it from a kit, that is what the K stands for in the model#. There is one in my shop.
