Yall forget women didn’t get married by choice back then. Well the lucky ones did. But many had to get married to have a life. Women couldn’t own land, have a bank account, credit, etc.  A lot of fathers used their daughters as bargaining chips trading them for land.

The vampire knows the prayer because hes irish and lived through ireland being colonized, it was forced onto him

Fun fact: there actually were Asian grocers in the Mission delta during the 1930s Jim Crow era. The Asians were the only ones in the area who were willing and able to serve both sides. They filled a niche. Ryan Coogler included them in the story after seeing a documentary about it. ❤

Y'all noticed he didn't get hit with a bullet until he took off the mojo bag .. it was protecting him.. this movie is very spiritual.. iykyk..

Religion can make one really close minded. The ancestral dancer with beads covering her chest didn’t need to cover up because nakedness was quite normal back then and still is on that continent. And we had an entire culture before colonization/purity culture. You can still be Christian and acknowledge your ancestors and history.

Stack and Mary didn't want Annie to die because they wanted Smoke and Annie to be with them as Vampires. They just wanted them bitten.

Our ancestors had a religion and culture before being converted to Christianity. It is important to know and respect the past

Not once did Sammie's dad ask what happened to him or if he was okay....and he's supposed to be a pastor too? Naw I would run away like Sammie did too.

The kids weren’t Annie’s btw, they were customers making a purchase before heading home

Sammie did NOT reject God, he rejected his father. Who is he to say that Sammie's GOD given gift is demonic?

Demonizing blues music is crazy. He didn’t let fear get in the way of him living his dream

Arresting Black men for vagrancy was how they got around the 13th Amendment and continued to use them for free slave labor. You didn't have to actually be a vagrant. You were just accused and sentenced. That was the foundation of the chain gang. The most important thing about this movie is teaching history that many people don't know.

There were a lot of subtle lines that give away the fact that Remmick is ancient. Like, at least 1000 years old. The coins he showed Mary, and when he mentioned while “baptizing” Sammie that Christianity was forced on him when Ireland was colonized by the British starting in the year 1169. He’s so desperate for Sammie’s power so he can connect with his family and ancestors, who he can’t see since he’s trapped on Earth due to his vampirism.

It's so interesting that you guys thought Sammie was the threat in the opening of the film...urging him to put the guitar down, when it was the only thing that saved him and everyone else in the town.

Y'all wild, those kids were just random kids from the area.  Annie mentioned their mom, but y'all missed that part.  Cracked me up every time y'all said they were "converting" them.  They're vampires.  They bite and turn.  Remmick was an old vampire and experienced.  The others were newly turned vampires without the control and experience.  That's why Cornbread, Mary, and the others were overly aggressive when they attacked.  The guy they dragged out was the one who got his face slashed.  Stack and Mary figured that turning Annie would force Smoke to accept getting turned, too, just to keep their family together.  Folks didn't catch that Smoke locked Stack in the mill to keep him safe from burning in the sun.

Fellas, Mary saying 'I'm a human being." when Sammie asked her, "What are you?" was just her being sarcastic with him because she knew exactly what he was asking with regard to her ethnicity.  She was considered "passing".

This reaction video is a masterclass in not paying attention

I try really hard not to be too judgemental of the beliefs of reactors I watch- everyone’s entitled to their opinions etc, but I gotta agree with many of the comments here that there’s something very sad about two intelligent young black men so entrenched in a conservative mindset that this movie’s messaging completely fails to land on them.

I do hope you guys revisit this film one day with a less inflexible perspective.

This video being the perfect example of how colonialism still has poc in a chokehold

Ya'll missed a lot. You should watch it again and be the first reaction channel to upload We Watched Sinners AGAIN and this is what we saw differently.
