Nobody seemed to realize the reason they owned two stores across from each other, one store was for whites and one for others.

And cause Stack is a vampire he can't see his reflection which is why him saying "it was the last time I seen my brother" hits even harder.

22:00 my favorite detail is that Remmick has a black eye unrelated to the sunlight, meaning those cowboys were beating the shit out of him

Fun fact the person who played Sammie this was their first acting role

In African American folklore, a "haint" is a malevolent spirit or ghost, often associated with the Gullah Geechee culture of the South Carolina and Georgia coast.

Shout out to Marketa for knowing about the lynchings being sent as post cards. That's one of the worst part's about lynching, other than the actual lynching, is how casual and how celebrated it was.

To be fair the “ Pick Poor Robin Clean” song is about stealing. But in this context it can be used as foreshadowing of the vampires consuming people or  other cultures (cultural appropriation).

I got a bit emotional seeing Buddy Guy in the film. He's one of the Blues GOATS and still touring at the young age of 88.

Mary was upset Annie was killed because their plan was to be together as a family forever. Plus, they knew if Annie was turned, they wouldn't have to fight Smoke anymore because he would more than likely willingly turn, since everyone he loved was a vamp.

For further understanding, keep in mind this would have been during the reign if the one drop rule. Mary would have been considered a Black woman, but she is passing as white. She and her mother were considered Black by the community, evidenced by Mary's mother was the twins mother's midwife who also breastfed them and helped raise the twins. What white woman was being a midwife and breast feeding black kids in Jim Crow? None. Mary was considered family and friend to the other people in the community. Grace knew her and was friendly and wasn't appalled to find her with the Black people, Cornbread and his wife being able to attend the funeral and even him hugging her show she was accepted. That's why she had to go to Arkansas to be able to pass as white, because she and her family were known in Mississippi and they would have known she was Black. Stack forced Mary to pass in order to keep her safe, even though she didn't want it. That's why she tells him she never wanted to be white, she wanted to be with him and that he made her get a white husband. So Mary has been ripped away from her family and community and now has to live with people who would hate her if they knew the truth and she feels abandoned by Stack. Then her mama dies. Mary is going through it and feels like shes constantly losing the people she loves. She gets turned. A demon now shares her body and is conviced the best way for her to never feel alone or without her family, is to turn them. So she turns Stack. Stack tries to convince Smoke to come out but he won't. That's why Stack said "no vision", because they weren't getting it or agreeing with the plan. He litterally says "This is the way. Together forever, and I aint doing this without you." Right after Mary tells them she won't  leave without them because they're family. The plan is to be together forever. Especially because if they get Smoke, then they can force Annnie, which would be easier than forcing Smoke. Since that doesn't work, they try to do annie first, but Annie had already told Smoke to kill her. If you rewatch the scene you can see Mary's face drop when she realizes he's  about to kill her and then you can see and hear how distraught she is as she tries to run to Annie to mourn her, despite the fact that she herself is still in danger and could be staked. Then later Stack tells Smoke he messed up the plan by killing Annie, again, because they were all meant to be together forever.

Some people try to say they wanted Annie for her Hoodoo gifts, and while that could be true, there's no actual evidence of that. Remmick wanted sammie for his power, he never really went for annie except for in the big fight , once. He never even mentioned her. He would know she knew Hoodoo from Stack's memories and he never said anything about it. Also, annie says she wants to go for her baby, not anything about her power. I'm not saying it couldnt have been a factor, but I think people whi take this approach don't understand Mary as a character and her motivation, or Remmick's, and are only valuing Annie for her power. Same with people who think they only wanted her to get to Smoke.

She was family and they wanted her.

Annie is not practicing Voodoo she's practicing Hoodoo.

One thing I noticed is, Remmick is older, and has more control over his hunger (as well as more abilities he's learned, like flying and it seems like the sun isn't as instantly dangerous for him) so all the people he turned have small bites that don't bleed much. The newly turned all leave huge gushing wounds.

As a native, music is so deeply intertwined within our culture and this movie just shining a tiny light on that is so cool to see!

Navi: “Ah so they are twins.”

Nah. They cousins.

Holy shit man Pat might be the worst person to be stuck in a survival situation with. He choosing all the wrong decisions😂

Remmick as a pre catholic gaelic irish makes this even better, dude was old asf. He wanted to use Sammy magic music to see hes people again

Welcome to the normies. Today we teach Pat about racism and the 1930’s

I just noticed, that in the beginning when Sammy goes into the church and gets flashes of Remmick his father is talking to him, telling him to give up his "sinful ways", is that he's getting those flashes because his father is doing the exact same thing that Remmick was doing. Trying to use his/other peoples pain, guilt and trauma to guide people into giving him what he wants. In this case, instead of ensuring HIS SONS safety or wellbeing, he uses the opportunity to try and enhance his sermon and condemn whatever his son has done to get himself into the state he was in

The thing is that Grace is ultimately right lol. Because even if these people survived until dawn, the vampires would've hidden out and just come by to their homes the night after. They would have turned the entire town inevitably. The only chance they honestly had to save the town/everyone else was by trying to kill them all here and now.

LOVE this movie. Great reaction folks.

Fun fact: The flowers in Annie's hair at the end when Smoke is about to die are called Baby's breath(Gypsophila). Nice touch by Ryan Coogler to add that little detail in there.
