Just had a really good day finding your channel, subscribing and binge-watching all the MGB videos right up to date. I've done 3 cars now, well 2 3/4 to be honest, with the same mind set as you, the best job I can do as cheaply as possible. The 2 cars I completed have been to many shows and stood up to scrutiny of professionals, and I once had an argument with a guy who insisted I was lying and hadn't painted the car myself in my own garage. You've done a fantastic job, so anything I am saying is purely constructive and may help.

It's true to say I've learned the hard way and made a lot of mistakes. My main painting problems came from the use of etch primer, I guess it has some merit somewhere, but I have found it to be total junk. Because it is a 1K product, anything you put on top of it that contains any solvent just lifts it straight off. It has crap adhesion to bare metal, which is exactly what it's designed for. Just give it a try, put a bit of thinners on a cloth and you'll easily wipe it off. The best restoration work and channels you will see on YT are Retropower Cars, Painting Classic Cars, Gavin Pink at the Paint shop, Trev's Blog and Ben's Classic Bodywork. The system they all use is bare steel, fibre glass filler over any welds that are not butted, epoxy primer, normal body filler, epoxy again, high build primer, basecoat, clearcoat.

Mipa is good product, but I swear by HB Body products. I have had a lot of help from the UK rep., Steve Brown, he is a top guy, he turns up on Gary Mavers' channel, Classic Obsession and restores and paints cars himself in his own garage so knows a lot about the problems we all face. Maybe I just had bad luck, but I found that etch primer didn't even stop the flash rusting. The real pro's are using Novol products, which are excellent but outside my price bracket, which is why I chose HB Body. Anyway, sorry for the long comment but it may help you and others.

Almost ready to start on the engine bay!  Nice job.

Great work on the scuttle panel pal it looks fantastic I can’t believe you’re still finding rust as well 😊😊

That looks amazing now, you're at that stage now (one of my favourite stages) where we sit for a long time and admire our hard work whilst having a cuppa & biscuit lol.
I can appreciate just how much hard work has gone into it, about a month after spending a lot of time converting my '76 rubber bumper to chrome I was driving about 15-20mph in a slow moving queue,  I was momentarily dazzled by something, when my vision cleared there was a car stopped about 20ft in front 😮 I ended up pushing the bumper back a bit & the drivers wing in about an inch just above the indicator 😢 I cut a piece of hard wood to the right shape & managed to get a bottle jack behind & push it back out, a bit of fettling and a wipe of filler & a cellulose rattle can made up & managed to sort it (It made me physically sick hearing that crunch hitting the car in front) & this all happened just 5 days before my first ever car show.
Here's a thought, what about converting the 80s style dash back to a pre '74 crackle finish dash with the lovely smiths gauges, I love my dash, although being a '76 rubber bumper model they still used the crackle finish dash/smiths gauges for a couple of years before introducing the plastic dash, there must be cheap s/hand ones for sale online.
Regards Steve.

Great work, and I’m enjoying the series, but I’m surprised you haven’t removed the screen and the guards. The rust in the ends of the scuttle strongly suggests there will be rust issues in the corners, the join between the guard and shell, and posibly the trumpets, all known rust areas. It’s not hard to remove/replace the screen, which of course you must to remove the guards.

Finally all the rust sorted, you have done a great job on it.  Looking forward to watching more work on the MG

Nice body lines.  Congratulations on the quality of your work.

Nice work, well done.

Excellant work again loved the nut on the pencil trick 👍

I had a 1978 mini in i believe Inka Yellow, personally i loved the color.  Think that was also an MG color.

Looking great. As far as lowering goes contact the MGOC technical department for the best advise on what they use in their workshop and sell alot of. I still need to do mine yet but will take their advise when I do.

Bronze Yellow is the colour you want, your yellow is Inca yellow, the very last roadsters were painted Snapdragon yellow.

Primrose yellow, it's the only yellow for an MG.

I think the Rubber bumper models wear raised by 1.5 inches over the chrome bumper ones. So if your looking for originalty that what your lookimg for.

Great job as always, I am very interested in what you find out about lowering your car, I have a rear kit here that I picked up, but I don't have springs bought yet !

Making progress on the MGB, in this video we finish up the rust repairs including some surprise rust I didn't  know about. We then apply etch primer to the remaining panels bringing to an end the rust repairs to the outer body panels.
Check out progress so far.  https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLx9R2ofZadv5A_2Vk4ZHjR6hf3cuyPSbZ&si=GsdoG0-403azDznA

That is Inca Yellow, I had a 78 GT in the same colour, the other similar colour of that period was Snapdragon, it was only used for a year and is slight less orange than Inca. I would go Inca or Snapdragon. The other alternative yellow is Primrose but that was only used on 60's cars.

I'd go primrose for a classic look with the crome...mine is a 79 sebring conversion so sits too high..bugger to get a jack under as it is...sitting in the garage is the crome bumper springs and lowering blocks and new disks
...I'll wait for your video to drop before I do mine as you probably have a trick or two

Awkward repairs; good, practical aand successful approach. Not overly keen on the yellow, although understand why you may want to keep the orginality.  Keep going!
