What a charming film. So thorough and complete in the history of the clydesdale horse, his use, daily routine. story and music, life and training, . An incredibly beautiful animal, absolutely perfectly bred to functional perfection... huge power, easily trained, so calm and obedient.

I apprenticed 5 years on a farm that bred Clydesdales. Nothing against them really, but when I got my own team it was a pair of Belgians. Later on a switched to Percherons and have stuck with them for the past 20 years. No feather to ball up with mud and burrs, no cow hocks.
This really was the twilight for heavy horses before the almost total eclipse of the 60's...a horse could win the local show on Saturday and be off to the packing plant the following week.. The "Back to the Lander" movement sort of revived draft horses here and it kind of enjoyed a resurrection from the dead. I farm and log full time with horses, and am getting older and I'd like to pass on my skills but most young folks seem to have other interests. I'm fortunate to have grown up with it and it just came to me as a child acquires a language.

My first horse was an English Shire - she was enormous with a sense of humor and a heart of gold. I've loved coldbloods ever since.

Here's to saving this beautiful planet and her innocent creatures.
Thanks for a lovely upload.

Paz y luz, everyone.

Wonderful film about the heavy horses. Thank you, loved it.

That was amazing I am so glad it shows how the heavy horse was so important and idolised by his horseman : thank you for capturing it all .Edwin Messenger

Beautiful ploughing straight furrows

Great video. Any idea the name of the lovely song that begins around the seven-minute mark? It's beautiful!

Love these old films

So many bloodlines lost since then.
Back when a strong neck mattered in the showring

Worth watching for many different reasons. Thx for posting it.
Fyi the Clydesdale film is only 18 minutes, then there is another film using not quite such old footage, about glasgow region population challenges and solutions.

I laugh bitterly to hear that many town-adjacent regions were deemed unsuitable for development due t0 being dedicated greenbelts or too valuable as agricultural land to be sacrificed for housing people. Well i guess we figured out how to fix that problem!!??

Cut tails .... terrible, brutal ! 😢 Why don't they cut our fingers, toes ?

beautiful horses
