maybe you're just a nuance lacking goblin?

The way he gives credit to bear for not raping Nikki the first time while not acknowledging the actual scene where he actually rapes her really shows that he was trying to defend bear

I really despise the kind of humour Alex has, it is so tiring to see casual misogyny being a joke to laugh at

“He was rather gentlemanly” Alex what the fuck? How is NOT taking advantage of someone, something that isn’t even a bare minimum considered a gentlemanly action?

Alex has a misogynist view of women in his videos only calling them by dumb stereotypes

Alex came at woman as if it's JUST woman calling him out 😂 what a self report.

i hated especially the joke of how bear was so helpless to seductive mistresses "crystal mommy and septum piercing girl" that he should've had the chastity belt on pre-order. what????? like some weird joke about how he was so helpless to two sexy women he needs a lock on his underwear. genuinely just gross. like why would you say that.

I thought Alex was playing a dumb loser asshole type character as an exaggeration for a long time.. but it definitely seems less and less like a character, huh?

I think a big point of the movie was that Berh is the everyman, the normal guy, the whole time. By having the villain be the everyman, it hammers the point home that in real life it could be any man. Alex missed the point entirely just by trying to say Behr starts normal and then “becomes the villain” later. He’s always the villain, that’s the whole idea

one of the biggest red flags in my abus!ve ex bf was his opinions on fictional characters. when we watched invincible he defended Omniman referring to Debbie as a pet was 'understandable when you look at it his way'. opinions on fiction can ABSOLUTELY BE TELLING

“Guys guys! This random Latina said the joke was fine! It’s okay!”

As a woman who used to follow Alex Meyers a long time ago and decided to unsubscribe because of the latent misoginy, I say he had it coming.

42:05 I think its really interesting the way alex calls out women in specific in his post.
"Women LOVE those podcasts that call out real life xyz"
He's specifically calling out WOMEN, not people, women. As if women are the only ones hating his take on bear? there's multiple videos of men who have critiqued his video, I don't know why he's taken this bizarre angle? I know it's uncharitable but I think it says a lot that the man who doesn't understand the nuances of the female victim and tries really hard to sweep for bear decides to...? single out women?
I've also noticed how he focuses so much on bear's emotions and feelings which of course is FAIR because you're examining his character, but why doesn't nikki get the same grace? She's put through so much that would to ANY PERSON, not JUST a woman, would be agonizing to experience. If he wanted to FAIRLY examine bear as a character he would HIGHLIGHT this too. He would HIGHLIGHT how bear violated and abused this girl while hiding behind his own victim complex and inevitably being the coward and leaving NIKKI to deal with HIS consequences. He doesn't wanna focus on the female victim and actively degrades her experience while pretending he 'gets it.'

I think the fact that there's so many other men who have seen this movie and can get the point really shows HIS bias. being a dude doesn't make you ignorant by default unless you have a weird bias against women; as I said before there are so many men reviewers who have called out alex and they get no mind. He rather single out the female audience and minimize them.

im also not going to back down on the “hes been an incel” argument because after bear breaks the wish and nikki comes to his house, you can see when she walks in and hes behind her that he has his laptop, some sort of magazines, lotion, and tissues on his desk. HE THROWS THE SEEMINGLY MAGAZINES ON THE FLOOR AND KICKS THEM TO HIDE THEM. small but ginormous detail that told me all i needed to understand who bear was

When it comes to the crystal necklace as someone who dabbles in witchcraft I think it was more a show of how her spiritual protection was gone and not her lowkey flirting or trying to get him to buy her a necklace
Edit: im glad to see people agreeing with me cause I've never actually seen the movie so i could have been very wrong 😅

The divorce thing kinda makes sense to me in this context--after all, we are ALREADY using Obsession as a litmus test for whether we think men are safe or not. The divorces being cross-referenced ALONGSIDE everything he has said, doesn't exactly make it statistically likely that in their real-life relationships, a person isn't an issue. We don't know if HIS divorces specifically were due to his obvious takes on women, but nothing is a nonzero especially when behavior corroborates.

I think there's a less "arsehole-y" way to discuss the correlation between "men who downplay Bear's behavior or who literally say he should be awarded for NOT ASSAULTING A WOMAN" and how it most likely shows in their social and romantic behavior.

It really sucks that men in this society are indoctrinated into not seeing women as equal. They might say we’re equal, but it’s deeply rooted in our society that women are “lesser” than men. A lot of guys can be open minded but it goes so much deeper than that. The video Alex made just proves that.

"I didn't feel the need to show every single instance of him being bad because I already said he was bad"
I'm pretty sure he spent more time talking about Niki's crystal necklace than he did about how/why Bear was bad... 17:39

I think it's pretty obvious Bear making the wish to begin with isn't an evil thing, but I do think it is a reflection of how selfish he is; both because he chose to keep it for himself rather than give it to Nikki like he originally intended and because of the actual wish itself.

In the theme of comparing this movie with childhood movies, a great example of a "dork given great power and showing his true colors" is Titan/Tighten from Megamind. It surprisingly tackles the subject very realistically, showing how he sees himself as this nice sweet guy that then instantly abuses his power to harass Roxane as he feels he "deserves" her as some guys do. From his point of view, he's the hero but he's just a dangerous manchild
