Why must I charge base to base in a charge when the rulebook on page 37 says within 1"?

@ikerconvitto 10 days ago

Great video! I have a rules question regarding the Charge Phase in 40k:

When making a successful charge, are you required to finish base-to-base with the target models if your roll allows it, or is it completely legal to end the move just within Engagement Range (1 inch) so you don't lock yourself out of a future Pile In?

How do you guys rule this at your table or in tournaments? 🤔

@kingbonezai4925 3 months ago

Can you do an explanation of pile ins? And the moves after/during fight phase. That is the more confusing one.

14:00 Wait... Does this mean that you can fight through solid walls now?

@spacemanx9595 3 months ago

@15:46 I think their first example is wrong because if you could land on top of the crate he would be within 2" horizontal and 5" vertical.

18 second and no views is crazy lmao

I have a rules question at the 15:20 mark of your video. In that example from GW I know they stated the scenario A where the outrider is within range of that target but because of the terrain he must go around thus he wont be able to end within Engagement range. Can I STILL make this unit A my target and move as far as I can? I know I cannot make any attacks in the fight phase but I got some extra movement this way which could be nice (if it is legal).

Can't listen rn but commenting to check later
Need to figure out how rerolls to charges work. If i have two eligible targets and the first roll would reach the close but not the far. If the second roll wouldn't reach the first if you have to commit to the second roll

@HooDie-Trench-GoTh2022 3 months ago

Declare charges, then roll: You no longer pick specific charge targets before rolling. Any eligible unit (unengaged, within 12" of an enemy, and didn't Advance/Fall Back) can declare a charge. Roll 2D6 for the maximum distance, then select one or more enemy units within that distance (and within 12") as targets.

Simplified/ more flexible movement: Models must end closer to charge targets. They must get within 1" if possible (engagement range is now generally 2", giving some "slack"). No more strict base-to-base wrangling in many cases.

No Overwatch during charges (it's moved to the end of the opponent's Movement phase instead). This makes charging more reliable, especially for melee-focused armies.

Overall flow: Charges are generally smoother, a bit more powerful/reliable (especially multi-unit or flexible charges), and less punishing on failed long bombs. Heroic Intervention has also been adjusted (often to the end of the phase and buffed in some ways).

One question about the Command Reroll - Can you use it during your opponent's turn? For a saving throw let's say.

@dylanschener8153 3 months ago

what about rules that reduce the charge distance, like the Tau grav inhibitor drone ?
Or increase it, like the Assimilator Norn after shooting with it's harpoon ?
