Detective Pikachu Returns: An Absolute Garbage Pokemon Game

Please do not buy or play Detective Pikachu Returns. I played the full game here so you never have to. It has no reason to exist, no rewards or payoff for gameplay. This is a genuinely awful Pokemon experience that took 14 hours to complete - just watch the Detective Pikachu movie instead.

I absolutely hate this game. Ironically we have made this game look better by editing down 14 hours of gameplay into highlights. The 12 hours that were removed contain nothing of note or consequence to the story, and mostly consist of fetch quests where you walk back and forward to help a Pokemon. There is no meaningful reward for any of this.

Please do not buy this game, even for kids it's not worth it. It is genuinely embarassing for the most profitable media franchise on Earth to release a game of this poor quality. I would rather play Minecraft Story Mode again than this

This game really nails the "mobile game ad" art style, it's impressive how lifeless and covered in vomit everyone is!

This game's ending feels like they didn't think anyone would get that far

The best part of the game was the first flashback with “Irene I want a divorce “

@j.c.m.7407 2 years ago (edited)

The best part is how everyone was joking about Pikachu going through divorce, only for the game to immediately thrust an actual divorce moment on us and just do absolutely nothing with it

I just find it funny how NO ONE sees the cubes on the Pokemon at all

Applying reality to this, Imagine a seagull stealing fries so they put it in prison

Let's praise the game devs for a moment. It takes real talent to make every minute of gameplay worse than the last.

Mewtwo being repeatedly chased by a swarm of bees and asking for help is funnier than any joke in the game

fun fact: tryglycerides are what makes up your fat deposits, so the scientist just called Pikachu a fatass

Soundtrack guy carries. Please give him a round of applause. May he not of suffered too immensely working on this

Because RT did not find the 151 digletts in the first chapter, a sinkhole formed underneath a apartment complex and ate 50 people. This is why you don't skip the side quests

The ending dialogue when Harry explains that Tim‘s sister gets bored too easily to be a detective is actually a clever reference to how this game is boring as Youtube

@quartzossie 2 years ago

"The plot's not just gonna be the movie, is it?" Dan would come to regret those very words.

Every member of Tim's family is dressed for a completely different decade

@Moonside_Fox 2 years ago

The end bit where Tim tells his sister she gets bored too quickly to be a detective is so funny because it's basically the devs saying "you didn't like this game because it was boring and repetitive? You just aren't cut out to be a detective that's all."

2:45 honestly this would be a hysterical gag if it was actually written to be that, because the image of some bored traffic cop seeing a pigeon ko’d and losing his marbles screaming about how everyone needs to evacuate the area bc he wants to feel important is actually pretty funny, at least to me. but in this hellhole of a game it was probably written to be taken at face value and we have to take this knocked out pigeon very seriously

Here’s my theory on why harry divorced himself!
As you can see, both the Protagonist and his Sister can understand Pikachu, because they are part of the family. However, by divorcing himself, his wife was no longer part of the family. Yes, he divorced himself SO WHEN HE TURNS INTO PIKACHU, HIS WIFE CAN’T UNDERSTAND HIM!

it’s a bolt of brilliance.

I like how Tim doesn't recognize the sound of his dad's voice

Amazing how none of the human character models convey half as much emotion as the Pikachu model does. Like genuinely, that almost feels like an accomplishment to make a 14 hour 3D game where no emotions are expressed by a human character, while the imaginary electric mouse has the emotional range of a Shakespearean actor.
