My grandfather who was serving with the Māori battalion, New Zealand was tasked as a bulldozer driver on the cleanup crew at Hiroshima. I’m told he hit the drink heavily once returning home to cope with the unspeakable horrors he witnessed. Maybe it was the booze or perhaps it was the radioactive dust he inhaled with just a rag covering his face, he died from cancer at 52. War is hell.

I hate that YT is making these historical videos be censored. These horrors need to be seen and remembered.

The men who beg for war are never the men fighting it. I served 25 years 12B 93-18. Bosnia to Afghanistan and a 100 shit holes in between

The radium girls did NOT "build up a habit of licking their brushes." They were told by their bosses that they had to lick the brush to form a fine enough point to paint the tiny numbers.

The sad thing is the people who weee vaporized instantly were the lucky ones. There was actually one man who was there to experience BOTH nukes! Can you imagine?

There is a YT video about a man from Nagasaki who was in Hiroshima on business when the first bomb dropped. He survived and was able to return home to Nagasaki just in time to also witness the second bomb dropping.

You should do a video on Tsutomu Yamaguchi as an extension to this topic. He was exposed to and survived both blasts by a sheer miracle - his story is incredible.

There are so winners and losers in war. Only the survivors left to remember the horrors and clean up the messes the men in suits make.

Its so upsetting that everyone near water had the immediate reaction to jump in it not realizing it would be boiling hot because the split second decision is purely instinct.

May this weapon  never be used again 🙏🏾

What will I do in the event of a nuclear war? Die instantly, if I'm lucky enough to be at ground zero.

Nice to see a channel that recognizes the school girls that were vaporized were not responsible for the decisions made by their military/government

I struggle to comprehend the devastation a bomb like this creates. It’s like trying to imaging infinity. 😢

I remember being in Hiroshima city and all over the place you find markings of where forgotten deseaded had hastily been burried. Sometimes only found again after the millennium

I have a strange condition that can only be treated with occasional reminders of humanity’s evils.  Every episode is another lifesaving dose.

8:31 bomb detonation height was calculated to maximize blast effect and damage from ground reflection..  radiation was always a secondary consideration.

" My god , what have we done" written in a diary of a Captain who was on the Enloa Gay , after watch the first bomb dropped.

Very well done. Also, I've really come to appreciate narration by an actual human instead of AI.

I remember reading the book Hiroshima in college. I remember this one chapter that mentioned people running to the river and many dying instantly from the sudden temperature shock. Also, the black rain that came down.

I've never made the connection of how the Japanese military/doctors tested on the Chinese in the worst ways humanly possible in the name of science and all that. Then the Japanese had two atomic bombs basically tested on them.
