I can imagine Munetaki and Montgomery launching bombs into the Chicago River if the Sox choose to make it like SanFran Bay 🙌🏽

Beeping out Willis had me dying 😂

I love rate field. But I would also love if the Sox had a stadium that showcased the Chicago Skyline.

As a diehard Sox fan, baseball/architecture fan, fan of the city and history of Chicago. This would be a dream come true

A very under appreciated thing about Justin Ishbia taking over is he has extensive experience in real estate. I think he will put us in a good spot

As a Sox fan living near Seattle I have to say T-Mobile park is amazing. I hope the Sox build a stadium just as nice.

Brodie: Madison Square Garden is located over Penn Station. MSG is smaller yes, but the proposed White Sox Stadium would NOT be directly over the station as Union Station is several blocks north.

Royals & Hallmark and now White Sox & Amtrak!  strange bedfellows but I love that these organizations are thinking outside the box.

A train line from the western suburbs goes through that train yard. If they can create a train stop at the ball park I will be ecstatic!

I’d have to believe that the neighbors in Bridgeport would not be happy about having a rail yard running through the neighborhood.

I saw the original presentation. For funding, Ishbia is way wealthier than Reinsdorf and is planning to use loans through Canal Edge for the development side. The rail/infrastructure piece is tied to federal funding (Amtrak/FRA), and the IL senate just approved legislation that helps fund rail yard megaprojects as part of the Bears deal. Crains did a new article saying his vision is a riverfront park with the skyline behind home plate and right field right up against the river for splash home runs.

If the Sox do get a new ballpark, I sure hope it has a retractable roof—much more expensive but please, anything less is not enough.

Maybe they could build a park like Oracle Park. And see if they could hit some home-run balls into the river.

Great video! I really like this plan! The location on the river is ideal. The potential of having the view of the Chicago skyline would be amazing.

Hudson Yards in Manhattan was built over active tracks... They can build a stadium over active tracks too.

Bridgeport nor Armour Square want loud trains next to homes.

A few points, some of which I mentioned on your other video on this subject.

1) Ishbia is planning on acquiring AMTRAK'S yard, which only occupies the eastern half of the plot of land you circle in your presentation. The Amtrak yard is the area from the active rail lines that run through the plot to the Chicago River. That's it. The presentation Amtrak made to UIC confirms this. The rest of the land (from the active rail tracks west to Canal Street) belongs to BNSF Railway and is used as a coach yard for Metra-BNSF service, the busiest commuter rail service line in the Chicago metro. If Ishbia wants the whole plot, he'll have to make an additional purchase from BNSF. It IS technically possible to move the coach yards 2.5 miles west, adjacent to the BNSF freight yards at Western Ave, because there is land there, but would require building a new yard at Western Ave, which would mean additional expenses Ishbia would likely have to cover.

1a) Any land given to Amtrak as part of the land swap would have to be approved by the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority, which owns Rate Field and all the parking lots that surround that ballpark. Ishbia is in no position to promise any of that property to anyone without the state's say-so. If Ishbia asks the state for assistance, trust and believe that any land from the Rate Field land mass ceded to Amtrak will be considered part of that calculation.

2) As narrow as the Amtrak yard is, a ballpark could conceivably fit there. You mentioned Oracle Park previously, so likely an arrangement like that. And it is likely that part of the ballpark would have to be built over the active tracks. A potential drawback to a ballpark at the Amtrak yards - the front (home plate area) part of the ballpark, which would usually have a large plaza area outside the ballpark, either wouldn't fit or would back up against an active rail yard. Not optimal,

3) Apparently, building a new Sox ballpark at The 78 is still a possibility. The presentation Amtrak made at UIC featured two renderings - one showing a Sox ballpark built at the Amtrak yards, and another rendering of a Sox ballpark built at The 78.

4) In your previous video, I commented that the Sox might possibly ask for a pedestrian bridge be built over the Chicago River. According to the presentation, if a Sox ballpark gets built at The 78, south of the Fire soccer stadium now under construction, they foresee repurposing the old B&O Chicago Terminal rail bridge as that pedestrian bridge. The B&O bridge is one of the two massive iron girder draw bridges over the Chicago River. The B&O bridge is the one currently in the "up" position. That means access between The 78 and the Amtrak yard would be at Roosevelt Road and 16th Street (via the rail bridge). The distance between Roosevelt and 16th Street is .45 mile.

5) As I commented before, from a transportation standpoint, it would be more beneficial for the Sox to locate at The 78 than at the Amtrak yards. The Metra - Rock Island (and soon the Southwest Service) run on the tracks that cut through The 78. Those two lines serve southwest Chicago and the South/Southwest suburbs, the heart of the Sox fanbase. A Metra station at 15th Street should pose little to no logistical problems. Also, the original plans for The 78 called for a CTA - Red Line station at 15th Street. Having an MLS AND an MLB stadium next to each other might be enough to justify building that CTA station, which would serve not only the South Side, but also provide a one-seat ride from the North Side as well.

There's been some rendering that ballpark will still go on 78 land south of soccer stadium and the ballpark village would go on the Amtrak site with pedestrian bridges over the river.

Before they tore them down, you had an amazing view of the Robert Taylor homes.

White Sox lease at Rate Field expires after the 2029 MLB season. Re. the agreement: Reinsdorf has the option to sell controlling interest to Ishbia between 2029 and 2033. If not, Ishbia has the option to acquire controlling interest in the club in 2034. I think Illinois (which owns Rate Field via the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority) would gladly extend the Sox lease at Rate Field beyond the 2029 season if need be.
