How a “Tired” British Battleship Humiliated Mussolini’s Pride in 6 Minutes at Punta Stilo

On the afternoon of July 9, 1940, an old British battleship the London newspapers had wanted to scrap for razor blades fired a single salvo that changed the course of the war in the Mediterranean.
Fifteen statute miles away, on the deck of the pride of Mussolini's navy, a young Italian sailor had two seconds left to live.
The shell weighed one thousand nine hundred and thirty-eight pounds. It had climbed to thirteen thousand feet above the Ionian Sea before it began to fall.
No one on the Italian flagship saw it coming.
This is the story of HMS Warspite — the ship Britain almost threw away, and the six minutes that proved the critics wrong.
For every veteran of the Mediterranean Fleet. For every family who served aboard the Old Lady.
00:00 The Old Lady nobody wanted
11:40 Punta Stilo — the battle that wasn't supposed to happen

I'd love to go to Portsmouth and see her on exhibition beside Nelson's Victory where she belongs, but alas, the Grand Old Lady Of The Fleet is no more.
