Not quite an annoying title thing but the Switch's OS puts Luigi's Mansion 3 before Luigi's Mansion 2 alphabetically because it uses a different apostrophe

It took me ages to realize that Half Life 2: Episode 1 and Half Life 2: Episode 2 are NOT the first and second half of Half Life 2, they are two different games that come after it in the series. Legitimately left them unplayed for a year because I assumed it was just HL2, but split into two different sections.

I believe Nintendo is so clear and specific about the titles because they have PTSD from the Wii U era

4:01 it's funny because at Walmart they have Mortal Kombat 1 to the left of Mortal Kombat 11 making 11 look even more like Mortal Kombat 2

I can't believe we will have to wait until 2113 to actually get Madden 14

When Mortal Kombat XL came out, I just assumed that I missed the release of Mortal Kombat XI through XXXIX.

I'll always have "The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass DLC for the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe game" ingrained in my brain from how often I heard it said in Nintendo directs

Oh thanks gods I'm not the only one who confuses outer worlds and outer wilds.

I think Nintendo calling the 2023 Mario movie "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" was also not to have it be confused with the 1993 Mario movie called "Super Mario Bros.".

Doom, Doom II, Doom 64, Doom 3, Doom, Doom Eternal, Doom: The Dark Ages.

The fact that it's Balan WonderWORLD and not wonderLAND which rolls off the tongue way better

Hollow Knight II: Silksong: A Hollow Knight Story

Microsoft lost the console battle when they didn't use the name Xbox 720

3:18 Oh boy I love Mortal Kombat 40

Nothing is more annoying than reboots using the plain title.

Especially when the game series gets rebooted more than once.

If Mortal Kombat X is the 10th game, then Mortal Kombat XL would be the 40th game, based on how roman numerals work.

trying to figure out which guilty gear games are upgrades and which are sequels is like doing calculus

The spiritual successor to the AVGN video of confusing titles.

So my video game title pet peeve is the entire Punch-Out series. First, there was the 1984 arcade game Punch-Out, and then there was its sequel Super Punch-Out.

Then, they made the NES game Punch-Out, which they called that because it was kind of a port of the arcade games, but it was also very much its own thing, so it's a separate game also called Punch-Out. This first version is commonly subtitled Gold Edition because it was a gold cartridge that Nintendo gave as a tournament prize and wasn't commercially available. Once the NES game got commercially published and a worldwide release, they added Mike Tyson to it and it was called Mike Tyson's Punch-Out. But then, Nintendo's contract with Tyson ended and wasn't renewed for several reasons, so in subsequent re-releases of the game, they replaced him with the fictional boxer Mr. Dream, and retitled the game to Punch-Out Featuring Mr. Dream, which is weird and dumb because it implies that Mr. Dream is some kind of cameo when it's a character made up for that game. It'd be like calling a Mario game "Super Mario Bros. Featuring Bowser". So yeah, the NES Punch-Out has 3 different titles/nicknames, but officially, it's usually just called Punch-Out

So then the SNES rolled around and they made a Punch-Out game for it aaaaand they called it Super Punch-Out. Because of the whole SNES thing of calling games "Super [Seriesname]", but there already was a Super Punch-Out for the arcade. Then, in 2009, they rebooted the series, releasing a new game for the Wii. Which they called. Punch-Out. Because it was a reboot.

So like, individually, each of these titles make sense. Punch-Out is the arcade game's name, Super Punch-Out is the sequel, they got an NES port so let's just keep the name Punch-Out, they made a Punch-Out for the SUPER Nintendo so let's call it Super Punch-Out, then they rebooted the series so let's just call this reboot Punch-Out. But then when you look at the full picture, the 5 games in the series are officially called Punch-Out, Super Punch-Out, Punch-Out, Super Punch-Out, and Punch-Out
