That hammer is actually supposed to be “spongey” its called a rebound hammer.

My first gun bought it in 1962, is a 410. Has only had 5 boxes of shells through it. Still like new.

I have one in 16ga, marked Springfield. Great gun.

Just got one of these at a local gun show with a 36" barrel

Thank you for publishing this video. I bought a model 940a for my son and I did not know how to field strip it... I would not have pulled that hard on the forestock without knowing how to remove it.

I got one 56 years ago. My first gun

Are you going to do a video of the breakdown and reassembly?

Thank you for an excellent video! I just bought a fine little Stevens 940 (I think it's a B, but I'm not sure... can't find enough literature on it) and I thought the hammer spring needed to be replaced until I saw your video. You were so thorough as to explain that the hammer is a little spongy and one of the comments below your video mentioned that it's called a rebound hammer. Now I know. It's supposed to be like that.
Thank you

I am wondering if my opening music was an odd choice . . .

Got one just like it

Thank you nice instruction

Did you ever do a video on the disassembly for the receiver?

I have one from my Great Grandfather and was wondering, since I haven't shot it in years, what's the best kind of 410 ammo to use in such an old gun.

Do you mind posting the link to the disassemble/ reassemble video?

can we see a trigger disasembly

There are several web sites with the Stevens shotguns. On your Stevens 940E, remove the barrel and  there is an oval with the date code (I believe). I'm not sure why they would have placed it at that location with so much metal to metal rubbing.

I am currently in the process of disassembling and assembling the shotgun, and hope to have a video of that soon. I really enjoy working on family firearms and during the cold of winter it is nice to have an "indoors" project.

Nice video.

Is there a video for re assembly?

Will Savage 16 Gauge Barrel fit on this 410 Frame ?
