An excellent expansion tainted by horrible news. Let's talk about everything this DLC gets right and wrong, as well as the sad situation at Microsoft.

Something something, it's 5am. If there's an editing mistake in here, whatever.

The lack of a level select or a new game plus really is my only gripe with this DLC because the combat is so damn good yet the only way I can experience it again is starting a new save file or replaying the master arenas.

If it has to be a mod, so be it. Despite that, Revelations is still the greatest DLC campaign I've ever played

Using the spear and shield in harmony makes me feel absolutely galaxy-brained

IdSoftware is really in the Dark Ages rn. 💀

This DLC made me appreciate Dark Ages even more.

I don't think it's recency bias when I say, I think this DLC is their magnum opus and a sad swansong for the studio. There's no way I can envision even a goat like Hugo pulling off another game with his skeleton crew team in today's industry, so it's very fitting their potentially final DOOM game was one that marries 2016, Eternal and TDA into the ultimate brainchild of raw, intuitive gameplay. I LOVE this DLC.

Go figure, they copy paste Eternals gameplay and suddenly it's Mayo's favorite game 💀

Just kidding this DLC is the BEST doom has ever been in my opinion, thanks for the review and hopefully id continues with their beautiful work.

5:51 I must be the only person ever who saw this and thought "oh nice, it shipped with blank binds so we can set whatever custom binds works for us, very thoughtful of ID software", but no, turns out it was just a bug

One thing I learnt from working at huge companies is that layoffs have nothing to do with the quality of the work. It’s a literal random decimation based on spreadsheets. It’s “better” to churn out generic product reliably and not be dependent on anyone’s talent in particular. Nothing personal, just a huge mindless corporate machine shedding some weight.

It took me a little while to figure out the spear mechanics, but once I did, this has been some of the most fun combat. I've played in a long time. I absolutely love the shield and spear combo. The Spear Dash ability is one of my favorite new mechanics, but I still use the shield for some types of enemies.

No ONE should skip the layoff discussion.

You want great games? They are made by PEOPLE. People with families to support.

Yeah, that segment about looking for the shrines to fast travel, matching the shape of the map to figure out where the hell you're going is so fucking frustrating

I see what the ACT MAN is saying but... I'd be more scared if I saw a guy just kick a 100 ton demon and make its guts disappear like its absolutely nothing.

4:00 What an amazingly hilarious but accurate way to put it. Going through the entire dlc I always had a feeling of sadness under the surface knowing that I’m playing something awesome that so many hard working people had to (figuratively) die for. And knowing those same people won’t ever get to follow up or improve upon on this creation makes it even more depressing

@djsmiff760 2 months ago

That part about relating the shape of the room to the shrine location was so relatable lol great review!

My heart breaks for the developers who can do no wrong and still lose their jobs

@dwmarch 2 months ago

I love how the Archvile tilts his head to the side in the glory kill, as if he can't believe you killed him.

@592Johno 2 months ago (edited)

Lol the 'shrine room fast travel zoomed shape' complaint is so valid lmao

This is definitely my favorite doom now - Hugo mentioned maybe just doing master levels of the 3 DLC maps which would in effect just let you play through them with all upgrades. Would be an awesome, and you'd think relatively easy, addition.

im ngl even after completing the dlc thrice now, whenever i see gameplay of it, it calls me to replay it one more time. And ive played the master arenas on repeat whenever i have free time

this might be THE most replayable modern doom content ive ever experienced
