the "another world" sinkhole sequence got me deciding: "Yup, Remedy is indeed 100% my favorite game dev/company of all time"

The moment I knew this was a GOTY was when I plunged into the UNKNOWN and that beautiful track plays while I fight demons of NYC 🤧🤧🤧

That song saving you when you're in a hopeless, lost state! Peak experience in gaming for me!

I think the only real misstep in the combat (which has been fixed on PC via a mod as of today) is limiting your loadout to a single form, combo, finisher etc. Adding the ability to shift aberrant forms on the fly is literally a game-changer.

Thank you. I generally don't get into the GOTY stuff, but I always have my personal favorites. I'm just finishing up The Park on an attempted completionist run, and this game is already my personal GOTY. So many things I could say about it; I'm just blown away. I don't usually do completionist runs, but this one makes me want to find/complete everything and read all the lore.

And it was released in such a good state. Performance is fantastic.

Amazing title.

In the first game, Jesse was looking for her brother. Now the roles are reversed, and Dylan is looking for both his sister and redemption

Control was amazing, loved the story and the gameplay.  Was excited when I found out there would be a sequel.  Just picked up the 2nd one a few days ago and have played it through the first boss and into the next set of missions. Was surprised they swotched from shooter to melee based, yet still felt true to the 1st game.  Really crazy to be outside in the city, but the patterning incursions are so cool, almost reminds me of Inception.  Its like XFiles meets John Wick meets Inception.  Absolutely loving it!

Arriving at the Underpass got an audible gasp out of me.

Easily GOTY. The song that played after the second traversal was obtained have me the same chills as the Ashtray Maze did, though perhaps a little less since you can't beat that first impression.

Been waiting for a true Control sequel for so long. It's finally here, and it's amazing.

GOTY, no question asked. As simple as the combat is, it's satisfying and feels great to execute; even bigger-budget AAA games fail to nail that tangible feel.

Goty for me, if u wanna "upgrade the combat system" look to download a mod on noxus where u can swap ur primary secondary and finisher in combat. Im doing the ng+ with this its peak

i did assist mode after 2 hours, and just upped the difficulty, which made combat better for me

August and september was a banger month, starting from playing star wars zero squad then Onimusha and now in the process of completing this crazy fun game! I don't know when I'm going to touch dawnwalker and mortal shell (newest neverending backlog lol). Not to mention phantom blade zero at the end of this month holllyyyy we eating good

That's a very good review. I resonate with your points. 🙂

Didn't hear you thank the great Fred for this amazing game. What a genius

I believe the "convoluted" system gives the power to control the difficulty of the gameworld to the player. You can level up zones and reset activities as difficult as you like depending on what level you left them before killing a Resonant. I'd have preferred a slider, of course, but the intent is there I would say.

simply bananas

A character from Silent HIll: Townfall  reviewing Control: Resonant

I feel like ive been playing games like this since the ps2

The combat is truly better than Control, and the best I've played in "hack n slash" combat can't forget the environment, movement, sound and visual effects that elevate it beyond other examples. Tho, I do miss Jesse's Monke Rock Throw nuking every enemy from orbit. It being unbalanced was the most fun part for me, I used the service weapon for sniping or grenades.

Destruction is reduced from Control tho. Jesse's combat felt more destructive, leaving each room with a mess. Dylan doesn't. I dunno if its because of the open map, that they reduced destruction.
