This man was so lucky to find evidence of his family’s historical stories. Definitely a helping hand from his mother.

If the name of his uncle was Herbert Dawson and he visited his mum in uniform, there should be some record of someone called Herbert Dawson in the military archives.

The generations of men and women who went to war in WW1 and WW2 were the bravest generations. None of family were in those wars, but my Uncle survived the Korean war, he was never right after that. A grenade landed near him causing damage to his skull, ending in a metal plate in his head, and the death of his best friend and their pet dog. War is hell, I have so much respect for the people of Ukraine right now, they are living through this.

The title says bigamy and betrayal. I seem to have missed those two but was enthralled with the bravery. My grandfather survived World War One and my father survived World War Two.

I absolutely love the immense collection of dialects we have in the UK.

My dad's dad fought from Canada in WWI. He was a sapper in France: digging tunnels and setting mines, not far from German engineers doing the sane job. I'm always grateful G-pa didn't get blown up. He did get gassed and consequently had very fragile veins, a small bump against something and he'd bruise. He and G-ma slept in twin beds, because she didn't want to bump him. They'd go to sleep holding hands across the small gap between their beds.

It's great to hear the Ilkeston accent. I am the same age and also from Ilkeston. I'm watching this almost 20 yrs after the filming.

It's lovely the way he and his father are affectionate with each other, kissing hello and goodbye. Very unusual for men of these ages.

Foundry work was the worst job I ever had when I was in the US. At one of them though the guys would wrap up bratwurst and vegetables and place the packets on top of the furnaces and we would have a fresh cooked meal for breaktime I'd say lunch but it was graveyard shift.

I have a picture that we recovered from a drawer in our property in Derbyshire with the 16th. Battalion D company Sherwood Foresters on it. I think Jesse Stevenson could be on it! V happy to give Mr.Stevenson an opportunity to see if his Grandad is here.

Robert, you were with your auntie Patricia when she was 70 years old, on the anniversary of her burial. I believe our ancestors always call us back to them in their uncanny ways. Bless You for understanding the spiritual significance of the moment. ❤

They're so brave, visiting the battlefields. Even when the loved one returns home, they're changed. What a terrific tribute to his grandfather. 🫡

He will I guess never know this but Robert Lindsay inspired me to study English Literature and in particular Shakespeare
when I saw him play Hamlet at a touring school performance at the New Vic theatre in Newcastle under Lyme
after he played the role at the Royal Exchange Theatre Manchester in 1983 .
Now 60 I still put my love of reading and going to the theatre down to that moment. Thankyou.

If anyone is wondering, 2006 was pre-2008 collapse. There was money, centrist politics, people could buy houses and the world (although on the way out) had hope for the future.
