Blade Runner: The Final Cut REACTION | First Time Watching Movie Review

My reaction to Blade Runner: The Final Cut!

I can finally see why Blade Runner is considered one of the most influential science fiction films ever made. This wasn't the action-packed sci-fi adventure I expected; it was a thoughtful, atmospheric, and philosophical experience that stayed with me long after the credits rolled.

Directed by Ridley Scott and starring Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, Edward James Olmos, and Daryl Hannah, Blade Runner is based on Philip K. Dick's novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Set in a dystopian Los Angeles, the film explores what it truly means to be human through the story of Rick Deckard, a Blade Runner tasked with hunting down rogue replicants.

One of my favourite parts of watching older science fiction is seeing how filmmakers imagined the future and how many of its ideas still feel incredibly relevant more than forty years later.

Watching The Final Cut for the first time was a fascinating experience. The stunning visuals, unforgettable Vangelis score, and thought-provoking themes create an atmosphere unlike almost any other film I've seen. And then there's that ending... I have a feeling I'll be thinking about it for a long time!
What did you think of Blade Runner: The Final Cut? Which version did you watch first, and what do you think the film got right (or wrong) about the future?

So curious which version you saw first - Theatrical or the Final Cut? Was it obvious that Deckard was a replicant or are you still on the fence? Super interested to read all your thoughts and theories on this one!

"It's to bad she won't live, but then again who does?"

One of my favorite lines in any movie.

Vangelis score is simply... EPIC. The atmosphere it creates is incredibly absorbing, ethereal... timeless.

Your introspection and slight confusion at the end is the proper response to a first watch of Blade Runner. Excellent.

Showing an enemy mercy is one of the most human things Roy Batty could have done.

Ultimately, replicants are genetically engineered humans. They are denied humanity because they’re treated as tools.

The origami Graff makes are all keyed to Deckard. Whether he is just reading his intentions or mocking that Deckard is a replicant running a script, that's up to the viewer. He makes a chicken when Deckard is trying to turn down the job, a man with an erection when he's met Rachel, and then the unicorn - either Rachel is the unicorn (a special replicant) or it's because he knows that Deckard dreams of unicorns.

"Opening her up" wouldn't have revealed anything. Replicants are engineered, but at the genetic level. They're flesh and blood. They're alive.

I love this movie for the philosophical and emotional aspect. As one ages and starts facing their own mortality, it gets even more poignant (or at least it has for me). It really atarts to hit hard, especially towards the end. One of the best sci-fi films of all time. It's simply beautiful.

The nail through Roy's hand was him trying to keep his hand functioning. The dove and saving Deckert was because as Roy was about to die, life was much more precious to him.

In the theatrical version you learn at the end that Rachel was an experimental model and doesn't have an icept date.

To me Tyrell was the evil one here. Manufacturing literal slaves with four year lifespans. Its hard to think of something more loathsome. The replicants aren't evil at all to my mind. They just want to live. What would any of us be capable of in the same situation?

It is amazing how much modern sci-fi is still influenced this film and Alien.

Part of why the miniatures and sets looked so good/detailed is because the 1980 Actors Strike caused a delay in principle photography giving the art department a few extra months to work on them

What impresses me about this film is how well Scott does "show, don't tell" when presenting the world. You're just dropped in, and it's up to you to suss out all the details.

If you were to ask me which film stayed with me the most in the long run, I would say "Blade Runner". From today’s perspective, it is probably hard to grasp just how visually powerful that film was in the 80s. It continues to shape how we visualize cyberpunk to this day, and numerous other films have taken inspiration from it.

Basically, you create life, so you own it. But the life you've created doesn't want to die as life in general doesn't.
Morally, do you have the right to end a life that is concious of its existence, even if you made it?
This is the entire premise of the movie...And it is very, very deep.

Philip K. Dick was a genius. Folk started catching up a few years after hus death, hence Total Recall, Minority Report, Adjustment Bureau etc.

Chrissie, the actor playing J.F. Sebastian, William Sanderson, was in the tv series Deadwood, that’s why you might be picturing him as a cowboy with a mustache.

The theatrical movie was quite different , Harrison Ford did a voice over , and they escaped into sunlight . Ford wasn't a Replicant and Rachel had no termination date .
