There's a reason why other directors, cinematographers, and production designers have high regard for this film. The world wasn't ready for it when it first came out but it certainly is now.

The haunting music by Vangelis the Blade Runner Suite, was performed by the Danish National Symphony Orchestra. It starts with actor Robert Bateson narrating Deckard’s lines, giving instructions as he navigates through Leon’s photograph. As the haunting music nears the end, Bateson speaks Roy Batty’s monologue of ‘Tears in the Rain’. I am crying at this point. Everytime I listen to it. RIP Rutger Hauer.

Roy's final act of redemption by saving a man's life is also an act of rebellion against his creator by proving that he can be more than the killer Tyrell made him to be.  Instead, Roy chooses to be something better than his creator had intended. Roy may not have been created human, but in the last moments of his life, Roy achieves a level of humanity greater than anyone else in this movie.

The twist that most people realized later. Replicants are the ‘victims’. Blade Runners are the boogey man. The deaths of each Replicant were supposed to be painful to see. In the original film with Deckard’s narration. He suffers from PTSD as he hated killing Replicants as they became more human, the main reason he quit.

Totally agree, it's a masterpiece. That "tears in rain" moment always wrecks me — it's such a powerful reminder that all our experiences, even artificial ones, are fleeting. The film really makes you reflect on memory, time, and what true empathy looks like.
I first watched this when I was fourteen and it definitely hit different back then. I was mostly blown away by the visuals and the action. Now that I'm older, the emotional and philosophical layers hit so much harder. The older I get, the more Roy's final monologue resonates.🕊

not a cult classis, simply a classic... cult classics are appreciated by very few people

"Tears In Rain".  A monologue so good it has its own Wikipedia page. My all time favorite movie. A masterpiece!
I've watched it 100+ times in my 63-y life, but nowadays I'm mostly just listening it because of the Vangelis' beautiful score.

As you pointed out, the lighting in this movie is it's own character, it's a truly integral part of this movie and set the mood so well!

Its an empathy test - its taking a way of life that many countries perpetrated, slavery, and setting it in the future whilst making a reference to the Noir Detective story but using an electronic soundtrack...it was way ahead of its time, like 2001, and it took time for most folks to catch up and understand...

This movie is the single most important movie in my life. I have Batty's quote tattooed on my arm. Childhood had some swings and this movie with a handful of others were my escape. My church is the movie theatre. I watch it now understanding through its many cuts that it is a very flawed masterpiece. But damn-it is it buried in my being. I've been all over LA visiting it's shooting locations, and was my inspiration to become a VFX artist although ended up being a production specialist that dabbles in VFX work. In every way of VFX, Production, Music, Lighting, this movie serves as one of the most influential movies of all time.

My all time favorite movie. A masterpiece! I've watched it 100+ times in my 64-y life, but nowadays I'm mostly just listening it because of the Vangelis' beautiful score. Rutger Hauer's Tears in rain was and always will be one of the most profound scifi monologues ever.  He actually altered the dialogue from what was originally written, and for the better. It even has it's own internet-page. RIP Rutger.

"What makes human?" The important theme in the movie. A replicant was a genetically engineered, bio-enhanced person with para-physical capabilities, "composed entirely of organic substance," created for slave labor by Tyrell Corporation and its successor, the Wallace Corporation. The Tyrell motto was "More human than human." They were not clones or robots.

There's been an argument about Deckard being a replicant running for over 40 years and when the star, the director and the screenwriter can't even agree you know it's never going to be resolved - and that's just fine. The unicorn dream wasn’t in the original release so there was no suggestion that Deckard was a replicant. The origami unicorn was present but only to suggest that Gaff had been to Rachel but let her live.
Only later did Ridley decide to add the dream sequence and create the theory that it was a memory implanted into Deckard that Gaff was aware of and that’s why he left the silver unicorn.

Japanese Whiskey is PERFECT for this movie lol

I saw Blade Runner in the theater when it came out.  Loved it then, love it now.

Vangelis score is simply... EPIC. The atmosphere it creates is incredibly absorbing, ethereal... timeless.

Good reaction to this film which is one of the greatest films ever. I rate this film as the best sci-fi film ever.

The unicorn origami is Rachel, she is the unicorn, because she has memories (granted, not HERS) and has a longer lifespan. The unicorn imagery running through the forest was added MUCH later and is from a different Ridley Scott movie called, Legend. It is a fantasy movie starring a young Tom Cruise that Ridley directed.

One of the greatest opening to a film. It's just mesmerizing

To me, Roy is the hero of Blade Runner. He frees his fellow slaves and risks almost certain death on Earth to try and live beyond his intended years.  Though he ultimately fails, Roy proves he is more human than human (the Tyrell slogan) when he spares his enemy and shares a few memories with Deckard in the hope that not everything of himself is lost.  And as you saw in BR2049, the ripples of him saving Deckard are far reaching and miraculous 😇

RIP to Rutger. Wildly underrated in his time, his 'tears in rain' speech is an all time soliloquy. Seek out Ladyhawke (fantasy), Split Second (sci-fi), The Hitcher 86 (horror/thriller), and Flesh+Blood (Paul Verhoeven's dark medieval religious satire).  Then maybe the Buffy The Vampire Slayer movie, where Rutger hams it up alongside Donald Sutherland, Paul Reubens, and Luke Perry (RIP to all 3 also)

Those are not explsions, Its petrocemichal iindustri venting flameble gas.

One of the buildings in the city is actually the Millennium Falcon model situated pointing upwards.

This came out when i was a kid and it was popular among a lot of younger people. I never heard about it not being that popular at the time until years later.
