I’ll be honest: for most of my life, I thought of Apocalypse as a towering grey mutant in armour who appeared every few years, delivered a speech about survival of the fittest, and then got punched through a wall by the X-Men. I never really thought of him as a person, much less as someone with an actual family. Then I discovered that this five-thousand-year-old tyrant has an ancient mutant wife, four biological children who became the original Horsemen, a sister-in-law who is literally incapable of losing, a grandson who betrayed him, a modern secret son, a clone raised to become a hero, and several other people who occupy the extremely confusing space between child, weapon, servant, and replacement body.
