Hello and welcome to the final edition of SUMO PRIME TIME for 2025.
It has been a wonderful and thrilling year for sumo, featuring not only the six Grand Sumo Tournaments, but also the Centennial Tournament and the London Tournament held this fall.
The 2025 sumo year began with the retirement of Terunofuji, who had led the sport as its sole Yokozuna.
Later in the year, however, two new Yokozuna and one new Ozeki emerged, bringing tremendous excitement to the sumo world.
The true generational shift of 2025 marked the dawn of a new era and signaled the rise of new stars in the year ahead.
As we look forward to another exciting year of sumo in 2026, we would like to thank all of you for tuning in and supporting this channel throughout 2025. We’ll be back in the new year with even more energized and intriguing coverage, including tournament reports, updates, and wrestler interviews.
Please join us again in 2026.
Arigato, as always, and see you soon!

Aonishiki is always like 🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨

the retirement of Terunofuji, the stumbling of Kotozakura, the controversial promotion for Hoshoryu, the unstoppable rise of Onosato, whatever the Nagoya basho was and now Aonishiki as new Ozeki, what a year for Sumo!

What a year this was! Two new Yokozuna, a stumbling Ozeki and the rise of the excitement machines Aonishiki and Yoshinofuji. I can`t wait for 2026. This could be the start of a golden era of Sumo! Hakke Yoi

Honestly, I hope Hoshoryu will win another tournament in 2026.

Love from California in the heart of the Mojave Desert! I started watching during the May tournament on a whim and became an instant fan. Sumo is now one of my favorite sports, alongside baseball and hockey. I'm planning on attending the US Sumo Open in Los Angeles this year!

Go Hoshoryu...get that win in January!!

what a bonkers year huh, cant wait to 2026 going to be fire!!

Somehow the algorithm brought me to the Day 1 Hatsu Basho Highlights back in January and I was instantly hooked. I didn't miss a day of highlights or coverage on Youtube or NHK the entire year. And what a year it was! This is a fantastic sport indeed, and I am so looking forward to next year.  Thank you Sumo Prime Time!

Now the hard part for Aonishiki, can he win back to back Basho's as Ozeki?

With the new yokozuna and ozeki, the traditional sumo exhibition, Grand Sumo in London, lots of rising talent, I think 2025 was a legendary year for Grand Sumo. Thanks Hiro, Sumo Prime Time team, and Sumo Association!

0:18 the zoom in on Onosato's stare 😂😂

Thank you Sumo Prime Time for providing the exclusive access of a very eventful 2025 in sumo.

So many great memories in 2025 with the hope of more to come in 2026 with 2 young yokozuna and 2 strong ozeki vying for the titles.

Merry Christmas and a happy new year to all.

What an amazing year 2025 was for Ozumo.
There was a clear changing of the guard with two new Yokozuna and one new Ozeki whom is very young so with a lot of potential to improve even more (until the white rope?).
See you all in Paris next June.

Its so wild to think of us starting this year with Kotozakura as the best candidate for Yokozuna. What a wild ride this year was, and the new year will see two Yokozuna and a dominant new Ozeki. The future looks bright.
