I've found a character growth arc there. Mr Pointy hat used to beg people NOT to watch his older videos, but now we are advised to revise one. Good for you sir. Good for you

I also heartily recommend letting your players know that sabotage is illegal... but encouraged

Love how in this vid on one part of Wild Hearth I also got an ad in the middle of it for Wild Hearth.

It's Wild Hearth squared or something.

There's a cool fail state you can do where if you lose the tournament, you're out but later you find out someone stole the prize before the winners could claim it and you're offered to help investigate and track down the culprits. You can use an alternate reward or the prize of the tournament itself as payment for bringing the thief or thieves to justice. Hell it could even be the team that was your team's "rivals" and now you have to work with them to find their prize, and maybe they agree (maybe disgruntled about it) to split the prize or maybe owe you one later, or even you just earn their friendship! Boom a whole other cool story/arc and you didn't even have to win!

I've asked on Facebook groups about designing these. The consistent response is "no, bad, don’t do this."

Im still going to do it.

As a dyslexic guy, the "BEST DM" thumbnail made me read it as bdsm and my brain did a few spins before i read it proper

Starting a campaign with "You all meet each other by kicking each others asses in a tournament" sounds incredible.

Couple years ago, in a Forgotten Realms campaign, the players went into space on a spelljammer. They ended up on a central planet of the crystal sphere where spelljammers are produced and entered a tournament with multiversal characters. They fought Master Chief, Madara, Toguro, and Gemini Saga. To this day, it was the best tournament ever.

At this point, Antonio getting food delivered in the middle of a recording session is tradition

My DM once had us in an arena fight since one of our players was gone. The next day in the campaign, the whole party was there, and we needed to fight monsters in the arena again. The DM said that the rules of the fight were that we could fight with 6 fighters. Our party only had 5 players.
The party talked it over, and we decided to add the name of the big bad that we were tracking down to our roster. He was a hobgoblin, and we figured it would be best to kill him alone instead of with all his minions.
Lo and behold, the DM magicked him into the arena with us; we fought the beasts first and then turned on the big bad.

It was so cool, and our DM said that it was his favorite session he had ever done.

This channel is truly a piece of heaven on earth, the amount of motivation I got since I start watching this videos for building my games, characters and monsters is incredible. The better part is how contagious it's the energy and passion that Antonio shows video after video and I love how many of the ideas made here works amazingly for me and my players.

I'm so excited for the new book. I Already want to try to do A tournament and even mixing it with Heliana s hunting.

Pointyhat has made me think of so many cool character concepts and think differently about campaign settings that I write for my games. Ridiculously creative and hardworking guy can't get enough!
