when I saw magazine perform this in 1977 I was 17and it was as near to a religious experience as I've ever had. . . . . it was like. . "What just happened" . .
2024 anyone? ❤ it’s so strange that bands such as the amazing Magazine didn’t achieve more commercial success. Ahead of their time, perhaps? I reckon if their work had been release five years later or even during the 90s with the explosion of the Manics, etc, they’d have been more successful commercially. There’s more to the art of making great music than simply aiming to sell units though. They were brilliant, we all know it! That’s what counts. They were true to themselves. Along with the likes of Ultravox at the same period, actually a not dissimilar sound to Magazine, they couldn’t break through either. Brilliant stuff, and does anyone find it a lot of fun to think, that us listening in 2024 to a band from 1978 is awesome? It’s like….back in ‘78, people listening to music from the early 1930s! Time has moved on so quickly, but the thing is, great songs and bands will be appreciated forever, I think. Forever. Yes….forever. We salute you, Magazine. ❤
