YES, THANK YOU! Tried to sit through a video critiquing Sabrina and Man's Best Friend and checked out once the person in the video said "Sabrina consistently making songs about being with and breaking up with shitty men will encourage her audience of young women to get with shitty men" and it's like... no? Do we think young women are stupid? It's a very "will someone please think of the children" argument and if a young woman is really like "yes, I'm going to get with this awful man because my favorite pop singer is always with awful men" I think there's more at play here than a pop singer but... that's just me I guess.

Sabrina’s stagesona feels a lot like drag if that makes sense, an intense performance of gender as a means of self expression and art.

Sabrina's performance of hyperfemininity is actually one of my favorite things about her, as someone also drawn to typically feminine-coded things. And it took me a long time to come around to accepting that part of myself, too, as a young teen who bought into the "it's not feminist to be too girly" nonsense. Now I realize there are many ways to be a feminist and to be a woman, and while there is a discussion to be had about why certain things are considered "girly" and others "boyish," I don't think that girly presentation is inherently conservative.

thank you so much for making this video. all this discourse has been driving me insane because it's just so...concerning. we all denounced the unfair criticism Taylor Swift received in the past, but now everyone has reverted back to that. when will those "feminists" learn that blaming women for men's misogyny and violence towards women will get us no where?

23:43 "internalized misogyny is everywhere" yeah like in that article

THANK YOU FOR THIS!!! People are being so cruel and unhinged. Thank you for an ACTUAL feminist-studied take.

Name the buff men, Sabrina! 😞

I love your channel. We need more anti dogpile influencers in general

The lip gloss and opinions are top tier.

Re: that redditor about SC’s stage persona, SHE’S A PERFORMER!!! Those are her costumes, and sex appeal in itself is also part of performance.

You basically said my exact opinion on the whole discourse on Sabrina. She basically is getting woman’d like most female celebrity goes through, but what made me the most annoyed about the discourse on Sabrina was the people saying that Sabrina is “pedo” baiting and “grooming” her young female audience. I feel like people just take words they don’t really know that much about and apply to things they think are accurate when it’s not. Like no Sabrina laying on the grass with the sprinkler next to her (which was a last minute decision of her and the photographer to do cause it was apparently very hot that day of the shoot) is not pedo baiting and her nonsense outros and sexual poses during her concerts is not grooming. I wish people would stop acting like they know what they’re talking about and actually do research on the things they claim to “care” about so much.

I mean Victoria secret models for doing 1 catwalk per year wearing underwear with fake wings and hair dress that make them look like showgirls in cabaret, but they are called angels... Sabrina Carpenter, who is doing basically the same but on a stage concert, and for few songs, not the entire concert, with an actual concept behind (one of her song is called bed chem...you kind of expect her to show up in lingerie as a costume for at least this song) but she is the one setting women back??
For being myself a petite women, you get hypersexualized no matter what you wear because people (men, mostly) fantasize a lot about girls and youth and see you as a doll, not a person.

This might be the best video I've seen on this topic

Honestly I have never seen anything about what Sabrina is doing to be very radical or even unique. It really just feels like she's being made into a scapegoat.

love how someone went to r/feminist to write one of the most misogynistic things ive ever read lmaooo?? and got 1.1k upvotes??? like i feel like this person was genuinely one step away from calling her a harlot

Yet another piping hot take, thank you sincerely. I am going to need everyone to stop blaming women for the crimes of the world they exist and make art about. Feminism is not a title you can force on women so you have another metric to judge them by, but you wouldn’t know that by the way people talk about it when they speak about pop stars.

The way Britney was treated will always be a travesty and I cannot believe it was that simple for so many people to hop back onto the “hate on pop star women” train.

It bugs me how much people call the new cover ‘soft core porn’. It isn’t, you aren’t looking down on Sabrina from the man’s pov, you’re a third party, on the same level as Sabrina. She isn’t even fully on her knees (in the way you see in porn). Yes the man has her hair in his hand but not in the way you see in porn. Brittany Simon made a long video about porn/target audiences and you can tell she isn’t making porn (soft or not)

I feel like when she dropped her initial controversial album cover every single feminist that took issue with, completely forgot how much men hated her. Her stage persona is very burlesque/drag with the sex turned up and men? A lot of them hated her for it. We honestly still give men to much power and assume they care what a female pop singer is doing. Some hate her and therefore ignore her. Others didn't care at all even if they liked her music.

I feel like people don’t know what feminist is anymore because this album is neither feminist nor anti-feminist. It’s just about her love life and how she deals with it. Not a single word about how women are this or that, just how Sabrina is. I find it especially strange that people are so critical of MBF when Sabrina is just continuing the same type of branding and songwriting she did for SNS, which was beloved by the media. Idk I just feel like you can’t be hating her for doing the same exact thing you were eating up last week 😭

Great video! That people only seemed to have listened to the album to back up their priors is so predictable 🎉🎉🎉 (and I wasn't even that into the album, which was fine but didn't blow me away. Someone called it "Short 'n' Sweet b-sides" and that feels right.)

Also she told Zane that she had to go through like five different guys to find one that would play with her hair rather than pulling it, which made me laugh after all the discourse.

Think a significant number of brain cells died just listening to you read that Reddit post 😮

8:26 the way my bangs were practically touching my eye balls 😭

amazing video, as always!
