Plastering is such a skill and art. great professional job, the kind of respectable, professional tradesmen you want and hard to come by these days!

Perhaps you could update this vid in, say, May or June of 2026 and ask the property owners their thoughts on the improvements made.  Just having the room usable would probably be pay-back enough, but good to know if they're able measure other benefits such as reduced heating bills.

I insulated all our external walls with celotex PL040. That, and low e glass double glazing, has reduced our energy consumption from over 13,000 kwh pa to 5,800 kwh. EDF didn't believe the meter readings the first winter after I did it - I had to photograph the meter and send them the pic. By far the most cost effective means of insulating old houses.

We had insulated plasterboard in our sitting room, 1880's house with 3 external walls.
Had 25 mm thick on external walls and 15 mm on internal wall.
Has made such a big difference ,now the warmest room in the house.

Plastering is an art. The owners need to look at replacing those windows if they want to keep the room warm

Where you left the plaster at the bottom off the wall ,or just generally if you have walls that are badly out of plumb you can double stick,
Dot and dab strips where you want to put your dabs for the final board
Another tip you dont necessarily need to use foam as adhesive where the board is going to be tight to the existing surface
Years ago we used to build what was called laminate partitions these were completely plasterboard walls all they had were a 20mm batten fixed to the head and floor ,you boarded one side then fitted a plank or coreboard basically a 600x 2400x18mm thick plasterboard on the back of your 1st plasterboard then closed in the wall with another plasterboard and all that held this together was a band of dri wall adhesive ,but not knocked up to the usual consistency you knocked it up really wet and applied it with a brush in vertical bands every 300mm literally using a brush like youd get with a dustpan
This absolutely works for sticking plasterboard tight to a flat surface
Hope this is helpful from an old dryliner

I was interested in seeing what insulated panels are,  but ended up in awe watching your plastering skills. Far more entertaining than normal telly 👍

when we moved into our 1930s detached house 15 years ago the first winter we nearly froze to death!....put 50mm Kingspan on all external facing walls and the difference was amazing, house heats up in no time , retains heat easily ......well worth it if you live in a house without a cavity wall

Nice to see a tradesman taking such care to do a job right

The wooden box ensures the board vertical, great tip.

That looks like single glazing. Good luck keeping that warm.

Such a pleasure to watch a master of his trade at work. Seems to be a dying breed these days! Good job sir 👍

These videos are a great sales tool, I’d for sure hire you after seeing the quality of work.

You’re very well spoken for a plasterer your mate on the other hand, fits right it

Tell your client that if there’s no fire in the fireplace block the opening, even the victorians new about this and some of there cast iron fire places had a damper for closing of the chimney built in. When we estimate for radiator in a room with a chimney we use to add 50% to allow for loss up the chimney

Nice job, small suggestion, you could show the temperature before the job and after the job. That would be something.

Damn, I don't need any work done but I'm seriously considering paying for a plane ticket to Oregon for that plasterer to come check out my house and see if maybe he finds something to do.

The bloke who taught me always said coat the back of insulated plasterboards for better adhesion as they werent designed to be dabbed.

Really nice work. I did my first plastering earlier this year, a crack in the ceiling. Took me a whole day to do it, i hated my life, my shoulders were killing me. 🤣  I also removed all window casings and door casings when i found that the fitters had not insulated around the windows. I could literally see through massive gaps, straight to the outside. Ended up foaming them all and it's made a huge difference, not just with the cold, but also noise pollution.

Thanks for providing this information bud,  having done a fair bit of DIY I like to research the right way to do things but also knowing how much work is needed to do a job properly I never mind paying a skilled worker a fair amount to do the work for me either, I just need to know how to do the job properly so I don't get mugged off by a dodgy tradesman or one who wants to cut corners at my expense. Got to remove and replaster lathe and plaster ceilings and walls in 4 large rooms, filthy job in a period house but saves a lot of heating expense
