It really is a stroke of absolute genius to include an option to throw anything you're holding.
Because other than that one thing, and the occasional bugs, this game plays it dead straight. Make the food, impress the critic. Real restaurant etc. Not a crack in its expression.
But the very first moment you pick something up, the game says aren't you tired of being nice? don't you just wanna go apeshit?
And that's all it does. And you don't, at first. But as you keep playing, you are never unaware of your ability to throw anything you're holding. you can go apeshit at any moment you choose.
And the line of thought "if I can throw this blender, what else can I do" eventually blossoms into stuff like floor soup. And the devs knew what they were doing. They wanted floor soup, and they got it by making sure you can hurl the very first thing you pick up at the nearest surface.
If Jerma ever loses all of his retirement money playing blackjack, we need to keep him out of food service. (Health code violations: Floor soup, used soup, "prepped" soup)
