"Let's get right into it"
best intro on YouTube!

That Volcanic Eruption in 536 AD may have also been the inspiration for the Norse Myth Fimbulwinter, the prelude to Ragnarok which lasted for three consecutive winters. So for the people who lived during that Volcanic Winter, it probably did feel like they were experiencing the end of the world.

Pre-Flood Kings sounds like an indie band

In 2021, a researcher investigating plants in Anatolia, Turkey, identified Feurla drudeana as a promising candidate for Silphium. It matches the plant's appearance on ancient coins, and its chemical profile matches ancient texts. The researcher has successfully cultivated the plant using a cold stratification technique. Because there is no genetic material from ancient times that survived, it is impossible to be 100% certain it is the exact same plant. I remember this article popping up, and they're still researching it over at Kew Gardens.

The Dodecahedron was obviously used to measure out serving sizes for spaghetti!!

To me, the dodecahedron looks like a tool to measure the diameter of coins.  Counterfeit detector.

'The most relatable thing humans have ever done or the most depressing'; you don't have to choose. One of the things that make it so depressing is how relatable it is.

I still like the idea that the Roman dodecahedron was just a test piece for metalworkers that they could take with them like part of their qualifications. I still have a standard sized steel box welded up completely out of flat mild steel pieces, all 50mm x 25mm x 100mm long, that our entire metalwork class was given to make and braze up with an oxy acetylene torch in metalworking class. The box is simply a square rectangular box, with a lid welded on made of pieces of the steel too, making a sealed hollow box. It’s astoundingly useless for much anything. In fifty years some descendant of mine might be going through all my old tools and find it and ask “What the hell is this thing?”😂

The Roman dodecohedron might not have been Roman, but Celtic. That might explain why they weren't mentioned.

What gets me is how confidently we fill in the gaps with guesses and then teach them as fact for a century.

Those Dodecahedrons remind me of children toys where you have to put the correct shapes in the correct holes, but in this case, different size cylinders.

Copper scroll is definitely top tier ancient trolling. Sounds like something Pliny would have done 🤣

It was actually at least 3 volcanoes that messed up the weather for 10 years

This may well be the most fascinating upload you've ever done.  Thank you!  B-)

The Sumerian King List makes me think they were counting days at first, then months (moons), then years. The word/symbol for years evolved over time and meant something else the further back you go.

The Roman Dodecahedron could be part of a military encryption device. The missing parts were wooden boards that fit into certain holes. Each hole had a different encryption mode.

Although it is not unique to Sumer, a lot of times a King would dilike his predecessor and have his record vaporized and have it just say : the guy that was listed b4 him reigned until I did.  Most Sumerian kings didn't like admitting the guy they replaced ever existed.

Supposedly the skeletons in the Himalayan lake (Roopkund) are slowly disappearing because some visitors take bones back with them 😬
