First of all, I want to say that I really enjoy your videos. They always brighten up my day!

​In Dutch supermarkets, food that is nearing its expiration date is placed in special bins or shelves and sold at a discount. This is done to prevent food waste. The food is still perfectly fine to eat, but the regulations in the Netherlands are very strict. Supermarkets always have fresh bread baked daily. You won't see food being reheated over and over until it sells here; it is either made fresh or baked on-site. If something is pre-made, it has to be sold within a certain timeframe, or it gets thrown away. This is how it works at places like KFC, McDonald's, etc.

The first thing. You are not stuck if didn't want to buy a thing in the store at the security gates. There is always, yes always!!, an employee nearby as the security gate for the self checkout is in most cases paired with the service desk of that store. There is always someone at the service desk that can help you getting out.

the only place were you need a ticket to leave the store is at the self check out.
at the regular cash registers, you can leave the store without a ticket

I've never seen a store like that where you have to use the recept to get out, but then i avoid self scanner registers like the plague and go to an actual cassiere as i value them having a job.

In the Netherlands, bread is life, so we don't mess with that. It has to be freshly baked and good quality, or you're out of business real quick. The egg salads and other salads you saw in the video are meant to be eaten with bread, if the date is due they will be thrown away.

Don't worry about employees taking a break, you will always be able to ask someone to let you out! Happens to me many times when looking for just 1 item and it happens to be sold out. They are just making sure your not stealing.  The worst that can happen is that they ask to look in your bag. Cause well, stealing is a no no.
The "statiegeld" depends on the container, glass beers, 10 cents. Full bottle of Coke, 25 cents. They know that now ;)
The herring, yeah. We say it's raw but it really isn't because of the process they go through before being sold. We do love our herring though and there is no need to worry when eating it. Fresh is way better but I will buy them like that if I really want it.
The salades/spreads... They are not really meant for bread or like lunch. More of a dip to share at a birthday or party. Get some crackers, put some on, yeah! As a spread, it would be really expensive.
Veg in a jar, very healthy and convenient. But expensive for most of them. Although it depends on the brand. All of them are still full of all their good qualities. IT's the way they are preserved. Same as frozen, if done right, they will still be better than a week old cauliflower in the fridge.

The herring is pickeled, but not cooked. A pickle is basically just a small cucumber, but pickeled. Both the pickle and herring het mooie tender due to the pickeling process.

A glass jar is always better than tin cans, i have the experience that some products react with the tin.
Fresh made bread can be good for a few days, bit after 1 day its just dry..

About the egg roll, in the Netherlands we don't frigh at the supermarkt but if they would then they make to order. And everything fresh that isnt sold that day bepending on how long you can keep it good enough to sell the next day whit a discount of 30% . If not it go to people in need

here we do have securitygates in supermarkets GOING OUT , but only at the self-scan checkouts. and there will always be open one or more checkouts with a real cassier.; where it is also easy to leave a store without buying a thing. although i dont get the point why visiting a supermarket if you are not planning to buy anything.

Organic is also grown in the ground. Just without any pesticides, additives and so on. Like if you have a garden of your own where you control what enhancements you could use to make a tomato bigger then it was intended to be.

The precut potatoes (and many other precut vegetables) are too encourage fresh good even when both adults in a family work or for single people. You pass the supermarket after work but can still get a decent fresh meal going quick leaving the evening open for sports or leisure

Organic means absolutely no poison used

The orange juice IS squeezed out of fresh oranges who are on the top of the machine,after a orange is squeezed the peel will drop down...

Just look at the lable on the bread when there are more then 4 ingrediënts it's not good for you,  here it's just flour, gist, water and a little salt

Dutch people want everything as fresh as possible. Piping hot fries, freshly baked bread of a steaming cup of coffee. I mean people take fresh veg over frozen veg and that stands above canned veg. Though affortability is definately an important factor in our decision making.
