The flessenlikker was invented in the time that yoghurt and puddings were sold in milkbottles. The frugal Dutch got anoyed that because of the thick consistancy often a whole bowl of yoghurt would get stuck to the glas and even with putting it upside down and waiting an eternaty you would not get it all.

De flessenlikker kan voor flessen ronde kant, rechte kant is voor karton verpakking

River and Mark are great! It’s hard to believe they’ve only been in the Netherlands for 2 1/2 years.

A Dutch saying says "Je bent nooit te oud om te leren".
In English: "You're never too old to learn".

That's not how you use a cheese planer. first you use it to remove the wax sides. Then you cut off the point to make the base of a decent slice. Then you keep planing it down towards the rounded back every time removing a bit more of the waxed sides when you reach them again. But this meant your slices keep getting wider till you can take out 2 slices side by side. So later we got square cheeses instead of round. So you buy a big rectangular block so your slices are always the same size.

Lot of people also make their own birthday calender. Like kids at school make them with drawings or pictures of the family.

I believe the speculaasplank is traditionaly used at Sinterklaas, not Christmas

Not at Christmas time. We eat this when Sinterklaas is here with his Petes.

The ‘flessenlikker’ was always known as the ‘likstok’ in our home 😂

The "flessenlikker" is available on Amazon as a bottle scraper spatula. The advantage is that the end of the spatula is flexible for narrow bottle entrances which they forgot to mention in the video. Compared to normal spatulas.

"Ostehøvel” - cheese slicer - was invented by Thor Bjørklund Norwegian inventor

The mashed potato tool is base for alot of dutch food, for example mixed with kale and alot of variants.

Kaasschaaf: every real Dutch household in the Netherlands has at least 2, when i lived with my parents and 3 sisters we had 5 or maybe 6 but there always was the favorite "best" one.
Currently at my work we have a shared company provided simple lunch with bread, ham, cheese, pindakaas, avocado, hagelslag, etc. and everyone just makes him or herself a sandwich and we eat it together on a large table. (sometimes we have a supplieer or auditor on-site and they also share the meal)
For about 15-20 people we consume at least 1-1,5kg of cheese per day so pre-packed slices of cheese are expensive in these amounts. So we have multiple blocks of young and older cheese and multiple "kaasschaaf" on the table. There even is a different model kaasschaaf for young and old cheese, the model pictured is the most common model for old cheese, there is a shorter version for very young cheese. (Jonge kaasschaaf)

Buhdas use to cost a fortune than the Action start selling them cheap as dirt and now all dutch people almost got 1 XD

The budha is a gift. They say its for good luck when you rub the belly. And you Dont bay ot for yourselfe. Its a give away.

We hold the bottle or jar on their side and then take the last bit out of the bottle or jar, sideways.

Using the Speculaasplank can be tricky ;-). The board need to be dusted with rice flour to prevent sticking, then you push or roll the chilled speculaas dough on the board and use a sharp knife to cut of the surplus dough. Then turn the board and slap it hard on the counter, the dough should come out ;-)

You are welcome in The Netherlands to feel it for yourself we are mostly very open

On december 31 we eat oliebollen and appelbeignets. To make appelflappen you peel apples and take the core out. That's where the corer comes in. You slice the apple and dip the slices in dough and fry them in oil. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon and/or powdered sugar

Buhda is feelings of rest, you can not throw or give away as you get one, its foor the happy feeling
