Recording Vinyl to Computer: Recording Vinyl Records Into Your Computer...
____________________________________________

This is the Audio-Technica AT-LP120, and it’s one of the most popular affordable turntables on the market.

It’s been around a long time in one form or another, being first released in 2009.

The latest model, however, the LP120X, is a little newer and was first released in 2019.

But with so many affordable turntable options on the market, is the LP120 still worth your attention? Or does it fall short compared with today's competitors?

I have owned this turntable for several years. It has worked very well and sounds great.

Funny story. I bought mine around 2020 on sale for $250, but didn't start using until 2024 or so out of cd laziness. Once I set it up I have no issues except that I've bought around 1000 used lps for it. lol. It gets daily use and is one of my best audio purchases. I bought an Ortofon cartridge upgrade and headshell to swap back and forth which also has yet to be employed going on 2 years lol, and will buy the red a/t cartridge also eventually to replace the green.

Great video! That is a sweet looking table. Next video we need to see those DJ skills!😅

I have one that I bought around 8 years ago. I have changed the headshell and upgraded to a high end cartridge, dumped the turntable matt for a much better one and I think for what it is it perfroms brilliantly, it is certainly not 100 miles away from my heavilly upgraded Michell Sycro which cast a heck of a lot more.

I bought one to play 78s and digitize my vinyl to play in the car. I upgraded the cartridge and fitted a Soundeck platter damping kit which, to my ear, provided a significant improvement.

I have this model, I got it a last year in October, It had been about 12 years since I had spun an LP. I have a collection of close to 1500 records.I had a little extra cash and spent about six months of research and decided that I could use the BT and USB so I got both. I also knew that I would eventually want the Micro Line cartridge, but the company was out of stock so I got the Shibata instead. After a year of use, and I use it alot. I am happy with y purchase. For some of my really old records I use the elliptical. If the record I am going to spin is clean, the shibata gets attached. I am going to get another cart and am torn between the Simuko Olympia or the Ortofon 2M Blue.

I hope it still worth owning. Because I bought one half a year ago. Quite happy with my AT LP120X. Got a ML pickup for it.

To be fair Technic 1200 / 1210 s were not originally built as a dj deck 👍

Makes me think a little of my old Technics SS-B5 from back in the day. Though that was belt system, it was also designed to look like a DJ turntable but was not intended for that purpose. I also remember finding the lights on it appealing while listening to LPs.

I bought one in 2024 with my early retirement benefits! 😄 The first thing I did was replace the platter mat with an old rubber mat. Sounds way better! 😉

I have owned one for nearly 3 years but I wish to upgrade to the Technics SL1500 which is 4 times the price to match my early 90’s build Technics amp

@cervezatipo 7 hours ago

well... i've bought one a long time ago. I know the internet tend to hate on this turntable for being a "cheap copy" of a Technics... that being said: I know is not the same, and i know that it is cheap... and an absolutely amazing bang for the buck. I've recently bought a VMN95ML and it is an amazing sounding record player (once you upgrade your stylus, it is great)

I bought the Audio-Technica LPW40WN because it is more solid and does not have feature I don’t need.

I have 3! I bought the original when it 1st came out. It has reverse, which I’ve used to fix jumps, a push-down light similar to the Technics 1210’s and you can actually make the arm higher. I bought the other 2 BTX to dj with… they work very well. All have acrylic platters and all have Ortofon Concord’s in different variations. I’ve ripped using Audacity, it works and is so easy to set up. The Bluetooth is great as late at night laying in bed I can use my Bose Quiet Comforts and happily listen to some of my favourite soul albums. I think they really are a great build and for the money they are a bargain. My original was £200. The newer ones prolly 3 years old were £250. Connected are a pair of Mission 700’s a THX certified Bass bin and a pair of Bose tweeters all plugged into my Technics amp. I’m really happy with them.

Lp120 is an entry level dj turntable that shares exactly the same internals as Pioneer PLX-500 or Reloop RP4000 and it used to be advertised as Dj turntable before AT released LP140.

I found your channel because I digitized my LPs. I started with Audacity on Windows, then Vinyl Studio on Windows and now Mac since 2025. Did you ever make a video on using Logic Pro? What are its Pros? Why do you prefer it? And I assume it’s got a steep learning curve? Just curious!

@rogerturner1881 14 hours ago

I bought it a few years back, it was good, but i think if audio technica made a semi automatic model it would sell more.I recently sold it for 200 euros...i bought it for 350. Semi automatic means it lifts and stops at the end of the disc. That's the sole reason i sold it. And i couldn't care less of the BT inclusion.
