Australian here, please remember our new Zealand brothers 🙏

I'm an Australian and we have to remember our brothers from New Zealand and our Indigenous brothers ❤️ We will remember them

I heard a story of a US attachment of soldiers deployed to Vietnam who had a motto "second to none". The Aussies in  the area put up in their own sign saying "none". Gotta love Aussie humour.😂

What creeped the Germans off more, was when they realised the Australians had been right up to German trenches, and had left just as quietly without the Germans knowing they had been there, UNTIL THE NEXT MORNING. Sometimes the Aussies didn't kill, take prisoners, or attack anything, but what they did do, was to leave a number of markers behind, in the form of string with Aussie Slouch Hat Badges, hanging from various places, some behind German trenches, some right in front. That sent the Germans into a real panic, playing games with their mental outlook.

Mind you, this whole story is overlooking the role of our Kiwi cousins.
Yes us Aussies can take any position.
But you're going to lose a siege against the Kiwis. Get us together and you have a perfect spearhead unit.

Aussies weren't the only "devils", Kiwis were amongst them as well,  the Australian and New Zealand Army Corp (ANZACs).

Romell is recorded as saying... 'If he needed to capture hell, he'd use Australians to take it, and New Zealanders to hold it'.

I watched an interview once with 2 of the last 'Rats of Tobruk' giggling like teenagers about being so close to German camps so often that the boys knew the German campfire songs by heart. They would sing a few lines with the enemies from the darkness and scatter (like a game) or just come back and pinch the grog.🤣🇭🇲
RIP! Lest we forget.

No one wanted to mess with us Australians and our brothers in arms the New Zealanders!

Yeah, we Aussies we don't like to take orders, we just get shit done!

In my youth, I had the great privilege of being taken to the dawn service on Anzac Day at the Australian War Memorial by an 'Old Rat'. He was a quiet, lovely gentleman and it is something that I will never forget.

It was the same in Vietnam. Americans were loud, smoking, wearing after shave and deodorant, charging through everywhere in a hurry etc.... In a jungle they stood out for miles and were constantly getting ambushed.
The Aussies would stop showering, wear similar things on their feet as the VC did, use proper camouflage, they were quiet, slow and methodical.... they blended into the jungle.

General Morshead was an Australian - not British, He was born in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia.

Unstoppable Aussies. We never got to hear their stories of war because they didn't brag about it. Survival was their victory and coming home their reward atleast that's how i think they saw it. 🇦🇺

The US commanders called them “psychos”.  Rommel said that if he had to take Hell, he’d want Australian soldiers to do it.

They called these guys The Rats of Tobruk! They had great respect from all Australians! Although most never spoke much about it. The last surviving Rat of Tobruk was Tom Pritchard who was 102!

Lesson learned. Don't underestimate soldiers who call home a country where literally everything is trying to kill you.

My great uncle was a Rat of Tobruk. He was a wonderful, funny, gentle, patient man, I loved him dearly. He never spoke about the war, not ever, & no one asked him about it either.

Lest We Forget the Rats of Tobruk

It gets worse.   When Singapore fell Australia was left to face a Japanese army that had defeated not one but two British armies.  Churchill refused to release the Australian forces in Tobrook saying "damned colonials don't know what a war is"
Australia very rapidly deployed every soldier we had - 626 conscripts nicknamed chocolate soldiers because they were expected to melt when the heat came on.   They were all we had
But with logistic support from indigenous New Guinea people they fought a Japanese army of 22,000 to a standstill.   At that stage New Guinea was a territory of Australia and we will always be grateful for their courage.
In the meantime Darwin received more bombs in the war than London did.
Yeah, churchill is not popular here.   We did get our troops back eventually when our prime Minister threatened churchill, but the soldiers in New Guinea are remembered and where they fought (the Kokoda Trail) is a pilgrimage for us (along with Gallipoli where we lost in WW1.  The Turkish commander - Attaturk promised that our dead were now his dead and they have tended the graves for over 100 years.   Mutual respect
