We were invited inside one of the most incredible private archives of recorded sound we’ve ever seen…

In this video, we explore Kurt Nauck’s private collection—a museum-grade archive filled with some of the rarest records on Earth. We’re talking about pieces that most people will never see in their lifetime, including:

The first electrically transcribed record
The first 10-inch Berliner record
The only known non-recording of Buffalo Bill Cody
And many more early, historic recordings that shaped the way we hear sound today

These aren’t just records… they’re artifacts from the very beginning of recorded history.

If you love vinyl, music history, or just seeing things that shouldn’t even exist anymore—this one is something special.

GREAT NEWS! Pt 2 is coming soon! This time it’s going to be all about cylinder records!

35 yrs ago, I bought a dozen Berliner discs at an antique store. They were labeled as 45s and $15 each. I knew what they were but barely had enough money to buy them. The shop owner took one look and said, "Oh, these are mislabeled...$15 for the stack!" I still have them...all 1895 and '96.
Great video, looking forward to part 2!

When I saw the title I was suspicious, but when I saw it was with Kurt Nauck I knew it would be worth watching.

The Monty Python Album "Matching Tie & Handkerchief" had two paralell tracks on one side. When played for the second time I asked, "That's not what I heard on this side of the record."

So, when Kennedy made his famous speech in West Germany, he did not say “I am a jelly donut.”, he actually said “I am an obscure 1890s vulcanite record.”. Got it.

Lol. I was expecting this to be about early rock, rockabilly records from the 50s, was surprised by the styles and content of the discs. For once a YT title was correct, these ARE records I’ve never heard of. The guest’s enthusiasm is infectious. You got a new sub!

Having been a phonograph collector for over 50 years, there is always new information to be found out. Thanks for sharing!

I am so thankful there are machines and records and cylinders that still exist, and people who find these important. And they are, besides that it's just so interesting.

This is extremely interesting but it scares me half to death each time he picks up one of those over-sized records! One slip of the fingers could be disastrous!

Interesting that the dolls house record features God Save The King as the 1968 album "Music From A Dolls House" by the British band Family ends in a ten second snippet of God Save The King (played by Family) on the final track 3x Time. Coincidence or was it an informed Easter Egg from the band. They were very British, so it wouldn't surprise me.

The etched discs and picture discs are true treasures - Fabulous episode!

Love that tone arm on that Technics. The length of that arm would assure for fantastic tracking. Also love the space he has all that in.

Your 10-inch Berliner Toreador Song from Carmen has orchestra accompaniment. We usually didn't get that until about 1905. You've got a very early example, and it sounds really good.
