I can't believe I never realized it until just today. Kit learned to play from Dottie. She learned to do everything from Dottie, and it went so deep that she's trying to play to Dottie's strike zone. She watches the pitches that Dottie can hit and she tries to swing exactly the same way, not understanding that she's five inches shorter and needs to swing up. Because she wants to play like Dottie.
Jon Lovitz should have at least gotten an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting for the movie. He literally was a scene-stealer and hilarious at every moment he was on film. Still remember the movie audience were laughing hard every time he came on screen. Penny Marshall stated every time the role was written specifically for Jon.
Love this movie. (Mild spoiler) Ending always bugged me but being a great older sister as Dottie is, I understand why she did what she did from the beginning to the end of the movie. She loves Kit so much. She didn't have to prove anything to anyone because she was that good and she knew it.
i guess i watched this on VHS when i was about 9. Mom wanted to watch it. I knew jon Lovitz' voice from other work, cartoons i expect. I can never unsee him from this role. When i think Jon Lovitz, this is what my mind conjures. Such little screen time, and it's such a memorable character.
