In Liverpool we have the Musical Box record store. Prices for new releases are always fairly priced and quite often less than online. Good shops like them and yours clearly have no interest in ripping people off. Long may it continue ❤

I recently sold my whole collection (60's to 90's) for £2k.  They had been in the loft for over 30 years, I was never going to play them, I didn't even have a turntable. I was pleased for the £2k, but still watch channels like yours and see what I could have got if sold separately.  Swings and roundabouts.

I've been buying vinyl for years and you really do seem one of the good guys pricing wise. I'd buy the Purple Rain and Isaac just for the covers alone. 1 quid! Come on. Fantastic. And the £5 quid box you have, I'd spend a fortune. Top shop. 👍.

I happened to be in London this morning having seen Norman Watt-Roy and the Beano Bluesbreakers play the Half Moon last night. So on my way back to the station I popped into HMV on Oxford Street. I never come out of record shop in under an hour - until today. I never come out of a record shop without something - until today. The prices in there are doing them no favours at all.

I've been collecting records for nearly 50 years, went to rough trade the other day,had a promotion on 2 albums for £50, but you can still get bargain's , I've just got  the Beatles mobile fidelity sound labs box set for under £500, now that sounds a lot, but they can go for £2000-£3000, I think it's surply and demand, love your channel and hopefully will pop in one day don't think you are too far away from me, I'm in Derby, keep up the good work, cheers, Dave 😊

I agree bargains are everywhere if you look. Plenty of slept on gems or alternate pressings on Discogs, EBay etc.

Supply & Demand for niche / collected genres are rising and falling depending on trends and desirability. Elvis is dropping in price popularity whereas Beatles are still holding.

Trance is making a huge comeback and prices are insane for many tunes that were £5 a few years ago.

Other genres like Breaks is stagnant. Punk, Reggae, Dub, Funk etc are strong for certain eras labels.

Agree with all your points

Great video

I would go to the record store that deals in volume sales first.  But I have no record store within 100 miles of me, unless you count the small selection at Walmart. I generally order vinyl and SACDs from online record stores and almost always new. I have been burned on used records online so I no longer purchase used albums online.

There Goes Rhymin’ Simon is not only one of the best pop albums ever conceived, it’s also a showcase for how open and uncompressed recordings pressed onto vinyl can be one of the most rewarding ways of listening to music. It’s transportive to a higher plane.  And, at your gaff, a fiver. Wow.

Such an educational, level-headed video. Excellent selection of bargain records too.

Excellent video as always Grant! Still very much hoping to come up to the shop at some point 👍🏻

It's simply supply v demand - prices would be lower if they weren't selling.

❤❤

Records are no different to anything else- have a good rummage and you’ll find a bargain.   Definitely get on your knees and do the pound bins.  I always do and have got some great stuff.  I do take a chance on some records (often because I like the cover) with varied success but it’s only cost me a quid, so I can’t complain.  😊

Can you explain why used Led Zeppelin albums are so expensive, they sold in their millions so they can't possibly be rare. Love you channel by the way.

In Jersey we have one store who prices fairly same price as amazon sometime cheaper  I support that store....and two 2nd hand stores charity shops and durrels zoo who ebay price stuff....limited selection facebook have to many discog fanboys pricing up i tend to avoid

Depends what you like and what you want to buy.
Stuff like Shoegaze , some Indie, electronic, ambient, some house, techno, jungle/drum and bass is very hard to get because it was pressed initially in very small numbers and a lot of it has not been reissued and probably never will be.
Take Sarah records for example, iconic label that will never get reissued because the owners won’t do it as it’s part of their whole philosophy.
There’s tons of stuff like that out there so you either pay the prices for them or get digital versions if you can.
That’s part of the game.
Also, stay away from the usual Beatles/Stones/Led Zzzzzzep/Bob Marley chuff that every second hand record shop has. That’s the stuff that clogs up stores and homogenises record collecting.

Have you seen the prices for Maiden vinyl lately shocking prices 😜

Plymouth is terrible for record shops , HMV and one independent that’s it

Everything is too expensive today.

I have a one box policy. The box is now full so I sell whatever I don't really listen too any more If I want something new. Its boarderline "hoarding" having thousands of records sitting on a shelf gathering dust.

I hate that there's no universal standard for new physical media music pricing. It's all completely arbitrary, based solely on what the label and/or distributors think the fans & collectors will be willing to pay. I remember in the 80s and 90s, when I walked into a record store (which were abundant) exactly what a cassette, CD and record costs. There was a standard price with the exception of clearance/special promotion discounts. None of this "Oh, Michael Jackson is super popular so his new album will cost double the standard retail price" nonsense. The problem could be solved by lunch time if the FTC would crack down on music industry price fixing.
