“We’ve Only Just Begun” sounds soft and effortless on the surface, but the deeper I listened, the more I noticed how much detail was sitting inside the arrangement.
The layered vocals and double-tracked harmonies give the song a fullness that continues expanding as the instruments come in. Karen Carpenter’s voice remains calm and natural through every shift, while Richard Carpenter’s arrangement makes the entire record feel warm, nostalgic and timeless.
By the end, I was thinking less about one performance and more about Karen’s legacy. Her voice, consistency and lasting impact were on an elite level.
