Check out the PDF if you're serious about learning Calculus

ever since 3blue1brown came out seems like math content on YouTube has improved maybe its just me tho

Did I just voluntarily watch a math video?

Personally, I think people struggle in Calc 1 cause their algebra and trig sucks. They forget everything after they take the Precalculus final and come in like newborn ducks. And not being allowed to use a graphing calculator should be a crime. The best way to get an intuition for what a function is doing is to graph it.

Seems like I finally have to learn to read...

Speaking out as a chem eng student!

When i was in highschool I PERSONALLY HATED MATH not because it was boring, more so that I do not understand a single thing about it. Then came college and LITERALLY one professor taught us 6 YEARS(highschool years) worth of foundational calc in just 2 semesters, this vid just feels like im reviewing for boards. All i can say is you really need a good teacher for your foundations. Anyways thanks for a great vid and extra knowledge!

It would have helped immensely if the math teachers  had had a clue about what they do and why . No motivation . Just mindless learning .

I still love math.  "Algebra will help you master your arithmetic, calculus will help you master your algebra." is one thing that was said to me that was so true. If you are not good at algebra, calculus will be a struggle.

Your professor/teacher makes ALL the difference in my opinion.
A teacher that takes the time and knows to teach you the simple shapes of the graphs, answers your questions about WHY you are doing this operation, what it means, and how it relates to the algebra and trig, makes allllll the difference!

I failed Calc1 first time around. My teacher just had the shutup and follow the formula and im not answering any questions attitude. 2nd time a better teacher and also youtube videos helped tremendously. Got an A.

My foundation is so shot trying calc 3, I am rewinding everything I've ever learned (self learner)

am i the only non-calculus person here going, "holy shit! this actually makes sense"?

I’m really thankful for all of the online resources for math education. The highest level of high school math I took was Algebra 2 & Pre-Calculus but we never covered exponentials, logarithms or trigonometry. I felt very underprepared when I took my first calculus class. I don’t think I would’ve continued in college if I didn’t have online resources available to teach myself the necessary prerequisites. Very thankful that I have internet access.

if only this video was uploaded years ago and watched it i wouldve fallen in love with maths :(( It's so hard to do math with a bad teacher and no proper understanding about it.

10:47 NOOOOO I CAN'T ESCAPE IT

Learning algebra and trigonometry well is critical to learning calculus.  Without these skills calculus is impossible to learn as far as actually being able to solve problems.

I think Indian education system has really nailed the Calc 1 intro. We learn it in high school after learning a lot of algebra involving complex numbers and logarithms and exponents, series, 3 units of trigonometry, plane coordinate geometry, and then functions. What this does is it ties up log, exponents, complex numbers, and trigonometry in to one packet through Euler's identity. Then we spend about 2 months understanding limits, continuity and differentiability. Then we start with the calculus. I personally believe that's the ideal way if you wanna pursue engineering or maths.

A doctor here. When I was first introduced to calculus at 17 , I could not decipher what 'function' meant for months. Consequently,I had blank facial expressions, when the teacher saw me in class, and not to mention bad grades. It was first time in my life that I was struggling to get even average grades,NGL my confidence was shaken. Eventually through much anguish and struggle i learned enough of calculus to pass the medical entrance exam .This video was the closure I didn't know I needed! Thankyou! . Initially I had more liking for biology than maths because even if a teacher isn't making too much efforts to teach biology,I could atleast see and appreciate its application in real life. Apparently I feel later after i struggled and learned physics i developed a certain liking for physics cause perhaps I started to see how in all the very amazing ways it's all right infront of eyes! ❤

Great job guys, one of the best videos i see explaining concepts

I think the best part about calculus is I understand mentally about essence of change. It taught me about change happens in small scale and the total of change must include expected variable. I found love 3 months ago, we are not dating yet but she know i like her. Still we become best friends. She was unexpected variable on my calculus. ❤

It took me years of practice to understand maths in this way , I personally learn to solve math in this way , brick by brick I add the concept and always solve the question in different ways , like I give you very easy example

8 to the power 2/3
1. 8² = 64, 64⅓ = 4
2. 8⅓ = 2² = 4
3. 8⅔ = ⅔ is  less than one so the answer must be less than 8 and by looking carefully we need to do two third multiple of 8 so that is 4 .
