I've watched quite a few of Peter's videos and I think that even though he calls himself a travel vlogger, he's straddling the fine line between vlogging and documentary filmmaking. His choices of subject matter are always interesting. Excellent interview.

Nyt on kova juttu! Peter on ehdottomasti kovimpia sisällöntuottajia koko YouTubessa! Arvostan älyttömästi. Kiitos!

It’s like Peter says it, his goal has been to show the world to people in their bubbles. Everyone lives in their own bubble in isolation. For one, without Peter I would have never understood the complexity of North America. We have too simple view to world based on our own upbringing and immediate surroundings, but guys like Peter actually offer windows to views and knowledge that otherwise would be easy to miss. Peter is what the social media was supposed to be!

Peter is very smart and has a multi angled view of the world that I really appreciate and that more people should have

Loistava haastattelu! Olen seurannut muutaman vuoden Peterin videoita ja aivan loistavaa sisältöä, kirja lähti äsken tilaukseen.

Thank you. Peter was a great guest! He was right about us Finns being resilient. On our warhistory channel you can listen to over 200 interviews of Finnish WW2 veterans, both men and women.

Todella kova! Ja propsit siitä, ettei korvat todellakaan valuneet verta englannin kielen taidosta. Priima setti 👌

Starting at about 25:40 minutes in, the conversation gets very interesting. I left Finland 15 years ago, and eventually became a US Citizen. It's exhausting to watch youtube videos about America, and seeing Europeans in the comment section smugly complaining about the current politicians in power, when on the ground level, it really doesn't matter as much who's in Washington D.C. today, as someone else will be in D.C. tomorrow, and most people will still be chugging along, trying to pay their bills and find some time to rest between all our commitments and responsibilities and enjoy their lives. There's one in my youtube notifications right now, lecturing me about the "current regime" and how that affects "average Americans", while that person has never been to the United States, and doesn't know what (presumably) she is talking about. It's upsetting, because some people on both sides of the political divide refuse to listen if you don't agree with them 100%. But in person, most of us aren't as black-and-white in our thinking. It may never come up.

I used to fall for the "tyhmät jenkit, lällällää" -narrative in Finland, too. My school teachers propagated it, Hesari propagated it, YLE propagated it. Americans were presented as some amalgamation of Cowboys, Hollywood, New York City, and maybe a bit of Florida. The rest is portrayed as "rednecks". That's how I perceived it too. I made some pretty fking stupid comments as an impressionable high school kid when I heard about WTC being attacked on 9/11. I did not understand, I really did not, and I'm glad social media hadn't taken off yet, because the memory of that stupidity is only haunting me, and not there for all of the internet to see. I thought I understood, but I had no idea. When the 10th anniversary of 9/11 happened the same year I moved to my new homeland, and all the documentaries and memorials aired about that day, it finally hit home. I watched what normal, everyday people's experiences were on that day, and I finally understood how deceptively biased the European media had been even when I was younger, and how absolutely prejudiced they make their viewership and readers against the American people and their culture and economy. I felt deeply sorry for being a moronic kid who thought the planes hitting those "dumb yank" owned buildings were "cool", but that's what you get when the only messaging you receive shows a very one-sided, overwhelmingly negative, story of a place and a people. I see the same stupidity from ostensibly "adult" Finns on social media about American news all the time. Social media has made these isolated bubbles of likeminded people even more pronounced, and in some places, if you don't repeat the same phrases and themes, you're othered and ostracized even by your own people.

I've met the most kind, empathetic, and welcoming humans in some of the most rural, "backwards" areas that, based on what media and since then social media once told me, are "racist bigots". And some of the most disgusting, hateful people have been the self-proclaimed "allies" of all current popular causes in bigger cities, and in social media bubbles, both European and American.
I live very rural, and my Finnish and American dual citizen child is in school inside an Indian reservation. We chose this place, because we love the place, AND the people and the culture here. There is more diversity of thought out here than in cities. The core social contract of "don't be a d*ck" holds, and people stop to help each other if they need help, even if they aren't always of the same bubble. The humanity that exists outside the tourist traps is so beautiful. It's depressing to see my own experiences juxtaposed constantly with the picture painted to us by others, who often pick a side before they've ever even interacted with their intended "villain".

We don't all have to be holding hands in a big circle and be best friends forever, but even a little bit more of curiosity, empathy, and understanding would help us move beyond humans pointing at each others' political theaters and pretending that is representative of a whole country and its people. I'd imagine a lot of Finns would feel unfairly judged as well, if the only instances of "Suomi mainittu! Torilla Tavataan!" were just biker gang wars (yes, I'm really old), top 3 (last I looked) in world suicide rate, and rampant alcoholism numbers, and not some of the positives that they actually have deeply in common with average salt-of-the-Earth Americans, such as love for and respect of nature, respect of personal space and individual freedom with a sense of cohesive community and mutual aid. Rural Americans don't call it that, but they have talkoo-like events of communal work, too.

I LOVE AMERICA, and a lot of it is because they have so much in common with the absolute best things Finland had to offer. Peter has a skill to get these very human stories to a broader audience, and as such, he is singlehandedly promoting better relations between average human beings from different backgrounds, than any other content creator I know of.

Dear Futurist; Kind and Appreciative Greetings From Canada to you and your fellow Finnish citizens. Thank you for this Magnificent Interview with Peter Santenello, meaningful questions, and I listened closely to Peter's thoughtful and informative answers. I am going to check your other video subjects, and if as interesting as this video, I will gladly subscribe to your Channel. Very best wishes to you and your Team!

People as Peter are reason why I still have some hope left with USA...

Thank you! I have gifted your book to my friends! So encouraging to know you will continue to share the real stories of Your Fellow Americans! On the journey with you! Godspeed❤️🙏✝️🚙💨

Having spent years in the culture of the Mid-South and now, years in the Northwest, with personal experience in interacting with people from coast to coast (N, E, W, S), I can affirm unequivocally that people are people everywhere here in the US and everyone has a story. Peter shares those stories well. Much love.
“All the world is a stage, and all the men and women merely players; they have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts, his acts being seven ages.” ― William Shakespeare

Awesome to see my favorite Youtuber visiting Futucast, iso kiitos and big love Peter thank you for showing what the US is really like.

Kiitos Isak, että jaksat kalastella näitä ulkomaalaisia vieraita. Annoit tosi hyvän kuvan myös siitä, miten sujuvasti suomalaisetkin voi puhua englantia.
