In this video we take a look at class 5 flexible cables. In the early stages of training to be an electrician colleges work with flexible cables. These early practical exercises are making off a ceiling rose and pendant and a BS 1363 plug top. Understanding the construction of flexible cables in relationships to the conductor sizes, number of conductors and the fine copper strands making them a class 5 conductor. I also show the construction of a BS 1363 13 amp plug top and a BS 1362 fuses. All these skills are required for apprentice Electrician’s.

The earth pin is longer so it makes contact first and breaks contact last, plug sockets haven't always been gated.. the fact that the earth pin was longer just turned out to be convenient for opening the gates when they designated the later gated sockets. Great content btw, its really nice to see videos like this by pro's teaching right from the beginning, I'm an EE and I must admit I would find it really difficult to teach lets say from "what is a resistor" to characteristic impedance of transmission lines.. good work

Definitely orange by preference for anything temporary outdoors when it comes to flex colour!

The ferrules usually have a slightly opened end to make it easier to insert the cables - look closely for this as it's not always easy to see on the smaller ones.
Also, probably covered in another of your videos.... if you are using a double ferrule, do NOT twist the two cables together before inserting them ~ they must be allowed to interleave for themselves.

Can you do a video about joining of Twin and Earth - let's say the wire run is too short to a junction box, can it be joined, is it allowed, how is it done in accordance to regulations etc. ?

what's the 110V supply for? Construction power? We've never had that here in Australia - but we do mandate RCDs on everything since 1990.

Id be interested to know what is the correct way to link up 3 extension cables ? each extension cable has 6 way 13 amp sockets and there are 3 of them in a cabinet that gets moved around. So rather than put these 3 extensions into another extension, what would be the safest way to link them all together and supply power ? The devices connected are TV, playstations, xboxes, tv viewing devices, so not anything draining like irons etc. Thanks

4:30 that plastic bag, is that a spare fuse left in there? Is that plastic bag enough insulation so there is no risk of the fuse shorting out inside the plug top?
