The installation acting as a source has been around since electric motors began being installed, in large installations with large motor loads a significant portion of fault current comes from those motor loads. Some from the energy stored in their inductance, some from certain motor types acting as generators fed by the inertia of the driven load.

The point of all conductors passing through the same entry on a ferrous board has little to do with over heating and a lot to do with magnetic losses which will affect disconnection times.

Dear lord, the new requirements for PoE are going a bit daft... adding protective earthing to isolated DC only cabling will only drive up costs and not add anything to safety. If your metal cased low voltage PoE camera has become live at mains voltage, you have a more serious issue and no low voltage cable will solve that.

All I want to know is how many takes did you have to do to get the numbers correct - btw I'm an engineer and all you have spoken about has been consider on bespoke large installations for years even PoE

PAS 63100 calls for a battery limit of 80kWh per dwelling; they can bugger off.

Forgot to mention that single core cables can pass through individual holes if going through a non ferrous meterial eg aluminium gland plate? How else are you going to put 4 single AWAs into something? 😅😅😅

I,M sure i watched a video the other day now saying that Bi directional rcbo,s are no longer required as its been disproved that there is not a chance of faults being blocked. So bloody confusing.

Some clarification of terminology would be helpful here. Upstream & downstream can mean different things to different people. At 13:53 it talks about type AC RCDs not being installed 'upstream' of a type A, but the diagram appears to show an AC RCD, DOWNSTREAM (further from source of supply) of a type A RCD (judging from the position of the meter).

2:15 why would ANYBODY have put generation into an electrical installation in any other way in the first place? (though, I am AuDHD and see things differently). When I had solar fitted in my home in 2013. I had very unique setup. Two MK CUs, one at grid voltage (which averaged 252v). And one at 220v via a voltage optimiser.

The solar [and a future planned] RCBO were the very first point after the incomer issolator on my first board. Then a 50A C-type MCB fed the voltage optimiser and then SUB board.

All kitchen circuits [cooker, Fridge/Freezer, Upper counter Ring, under counter Ring], the immersion heater, and the workshop were all on grid voltage.
The 3x bedrooms, loft, two bathrooms, 3x lighting circuits, and the two Racks all ran from the Sub CU.

NOTE: For low voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies to the BS EN IEC 61439 series, conductors in AC circuits with a current rating not exceeding 200 A can pass through separate holes etc. in ferromagnetic enclosures, sections, or plates. Currents above 200 A where conductors pass through separate holes in ferromagnetic material, need to have been verified by temperature-rise test(s).

So, does this mean circuits <200A can go through seperate holes in metal now?
