Shindong is Sujus resident video director. He works on MVs and vcrs. If I remember right his first official MVs were for This is Love and Evanesce right before he left to do his military service. (Sorry y'all I don't count Oppa Oppa 😂) He has his own production company called Walawala. Eunhyuk does stage direction, so between the two of them there is strong group input for their concert series named Super Shows.

"It's You," which also was released in 2009, is another classic Super Junior song. Just wait until you see them perform "It's You" live, like all of SM's groups, live is where they really showcase what makes Super Junior icons. Their live vocals are even more beautiful, and this song takes on a whole other feel. Yes, they are all supposed to be upset in this MV. Although this song sounds really beautiful, it's actually a breakup song and they are all heartbroken. You should look up the lyrics for "It's You" to fully understand the emotional impact of this song.

Super Junior 05 debuted as 12 because they were supposed to be a rotational group with new members every year and that meant that some members would graduate and leave the group. But ELF got really attached to the group as it was and pleaded so that they would make them a fixed group. So in 2006 they redebuted as a fixed group with the song U and their new member Kyuhyun, bringing up he count to 13. They were gonna add a new member, hinting him as a mysterious violinist in the Don't Don MV (which I really wanted you  to watch haha instead of Sorry Sorry since they have lots of live performances of that song). But in the end ELF were traumaized by the rotational group concept and overreacted so that member didn't debute in their main group line up but was later added to their Mandarin Sub unit.

Twins had 12 members but kyuhyun joined the group during U that made them 13. Then later on, one by one, they joined the military, so we never had the complete 13 members since then. Now they have 9 active members.

Shindong started directing when Donghae and Eunhyuk created  their sub unit D&E in 2014  with their song OPPA OPPA and in 2015 with SUPER JUNIORs duble release THIS IS LOVE and EVANESCE MVs  for the MAMACITA REPACKAGED ALBUM. He created his own directing studio called WALALA.  They do MVs, live stages, and concert VCRs.

"Twins (Knock Out)" is Super Junior '05's debut song and it came out in 2005. (In 2025 Super Junior is a 9 member group, but when they debuted they had 12 members.) Kyuhyun, who will become one of Super Junior's main vocalists and the youngest member of the group, wasn't even a trainee yet. Kyuhyun didn't debut until 6 months after this, and he only trained for about 3 months before he became the 13th member at age 17. (That's how talented SJ vocalists are. :D)

If you look up the English translation of the lyrics you will see why they used fire in this MV. The images of fire go along with what the song is talking about.

SuJu is the group that really launched Kpop into mainstream popularity globally, but that wasn't until about 2009 with their song "Sorry Sorry." The MV for "Twins (Knock Out)" and choreography was actually groundbreaking and ahead of its time way back in 2005. Back then, the industry was so much different: they didn't have budgets, they had even more strict beauty standards and basically the industry itself was still struggling to make a name for itself globally. You may notice that they only showcased the main visuals in most of these early videos, but that was the  industry's standard practice back then.

Plus, the internet, digital media, and search engine platforms were not what they are today. If you watch some of  their more recent interviews, members often share stories about how they struggled and competed to have more screen time, and everyday they worried that it would be their last in the group and that they would be cut.

Super Junior originally were a 13 member group + 2 Super Junior-M members, so in these older videos you will see 12/13 members. Because Super Junior has so many members,  it's difficult to give equal screen time to each of the members when the group is so large. (If they gave everyone equal screen time the song would end up being 7-13 minutes long and that's too long for most listeners attention spans, LOL.) Plus, each member has their own unique role within the group, so sometimes that means certain members have a larger part then others.

Also, one thing you should keep in mind with these early SuJu songs, is that Super Junior wasn't originally supposed to be a permanent group, and the group was made up of members who were being trained in all aspects of the entertainment industry. So, SM's original goal for the group was to allow the members to gain more experience in the industry while they learned to be TV hosts, actors, models, comedians, etc. That's why in their first few songs some of the members roles are smaller. SM wasn't necessarily expecting them to continue as a member of this group in particular. The plan was to have the members graduate to other groups and other careers within the entertainment industry after a few months. Which is why they originally had '05 in their name, because each year they were supposed to have members leave and new rookie members were going to join the group. It was SuJu's fans that saw the potential in the group as a whole and put a stop to SM's plan.

When SuJu debuted the oldest members, Leeteuk and Heechul were about 22 and the youngest Ryeowook and Kibum were about 18. The very first person we see in the opening of this MV is Hangeng, who is Super Junior's first Chinese member and the very first non-Korean Kpop star. The one with the solo break dance in the opening is Eunhyuk, SuJu's main dancer and main rapper. However, the first person who sings in the MV and song is Siwon, who is the actor and visual of the group. The one that says "Got to get you out of my life ..." is Yesung one of SuJu's vocal powerhouses. And, the long hair redhead is Heechul, who you may know as one of the most famous main cast members and/or hosts of several very popular Korean variety shows.

"Twins (Knock Out)" is actually one of SuJu's least popular songs, and many people even forget it exists unless they are dedicated E.L.Fs -- Everlasting Friends (The name of Super Junior's fans).

Yes, sorry sorry was what made them go trending

SM's first boy group was H.O.T in 1996 and first girl group S.E.S in 97. There were other 5 groups before Super Junior debuted in 2005.

Super Junior's "U" -- which came out in 2006 -- is Kyuhyun's debut, so Ryeowook and Kyuhyun were young here. Kyuhyun* was only 18 here and Ryeowook was about 19. "U" was released about 6 months after "Twins."

*Kyuhyun is such a talented singer that he only was a trainee for about 3 months before becoming a member of Super Junior and he was made a main vocalist from the very beginning -- even as teenagers they were amazing vocalists.

There are 13 members in "U". Back in the day when they were a much larger group, many of the members had a lot smaller role in Super Junior's songs than others, but when you check out Super Junior's killing voice you will see that it just goes to show you how amazing of vocalists they all are because even if their parts are redistributed and changed they still are able to pull of an amazing performance that rivals the original version. :D

It wasn't until the addition of Kyuhyun and their release of "U" that they got their first win on a music program, and at that point they were at the tipping point -- pretty much one win or loss away from SM deciding whether to break up the group, because the group wasn't seeing the success that SM wanted them to in order to make it worth keeping them together. That's why Kyuhyun jokes to this day that if it wasn't for him joining the group Super Junior wouldn't even exist. He says he was the savior of all that is SuJu. LOL

And yep, the girl in this MV is Yoona from Girls' Generation. If you remember, SNSD is Super Junior's little sister group, and they debuted in 2007, so "U" came out before Yoona had even debuted.

You should check out Super Junior-M's version of "U" next. "U" (Mandarin version), was SuJu-M's debut song. They also have an MV. Super Junior-M debuted in 2008. You will get to meet Henry and Zhoumi, Super Junior's Chinese members, as well. Henry is my bias in Super Junior and he is actually my ultimate bias in all of Kpop. (Because I can't chose a bias in SHINee, so they are just my ultimate bias group. ;P)

No doubt you have probably heard "Sorry Sorry" before and may not have even realized it at the time. It's almost impossible to be a fan of Kpop and not know Super Junior's "Sorry Sorry" LOL. This is one of THE MOST iconic Kpop songs and choreo of all time. "Sorry Sorry" came out in 2009  and it is what shot Super Junior into intentional superstardom. EVERY single person and their grandparents in Korea knows this song and can dance the dance. "Sorry Sorry" is the one song that everyone in the industry knows and is practically required to perform at least once in their careers.

At their peak Super Junior was a 13 member group + 2 members who were exclusively part of Super Junior-M = 15 members in total.

There are 13 members in "Sorry Sorry" -- I think this might be the last MV where we see all 13 of the original members together in one MV. (Kibum and Hangeng officially left the group in 2010.) From here on out, SuJu spends almost 9 years where they are missing at least one member as they all take their leave to serve in the military, or because of other issues. The members started going off to the military in 2009/2010 and the last member was discharged in 2018.

"Sorry Sorry" is so well known and so iconic that it is the most well known Kpop song around the world, and when it came out it became an international trend. Groups of people were getting together in 2009/2010 and learning this dance and song and posting it all over the internet. The song was so big that even an entire prison population in the Philippines learned this dance and performed it. You can find thousands of clips of groups of people from all around the world performing this song, and even grandmothers have formed dance teams and aerobics workout classes around this song and choreo.

You can also find clips of pretty much any Kpop group or artist performing a cover of this song and dance as part of their standard rookie debut, and I literally mean EVERY Kpop artist and entertainer.

As you are noticing Super Junior is known for their vocals and for their dancing. As an SM Entertainment group it's really no surprise that the members are all amazing vocalists and dancers because SM is the vocal powerhouse of the industry, that happens to also have some of the top dancers.

Super Junior has 3 main/lead rappers -- Eunhyuk, Shindong and Heechul -- but they are all amazing singers as well. SJ's rappers are such good singers that they have even been known to fill in for the main signers on occasion. But, as you may be started to notice, most of SM's rappers were actually chosen to become trainees for their vocal and/or dancing skills. The majority of SM's rappers learned to rap, or at least became good at it,  after they joined the company. Therefore, all of SM's artists are amazing vocalists -- being great rappers is just a bonus.

Super Junior debuted Nov. 6, 2005, so this year is their 20th anniversary and they are all still very much active in all aspects of the industry. They currently have 12 full length albums and several repackaged albums, as well as a multitude of mini albums. Plus, they have 6 sub-units -- Super Junior-K.R.Y. (made up of Kyuhyun, Ryeowook and Yesung -- SJ's main vocalists), Super Junior-D & E (made up of Donghae and Eunhyuk), Super Junior-T (Trot -- which is like a cross between the equivalent of western old-style country music and cabaret music. It's older-style Korean pop music that's all about being kind of cheesy, fun and over the top.), Super Junior-M (Mandarin Chinese), Super Junior-H (Happy)  and Super Junior-L.S.S (made up of Leeteuk, Shindong and Siwon). And they now have 9 active members (12 members all together), and most of them also have solo tracks and albums. So yes, they have plenty of songs to check out, as well as numerous live performances and concert footage. Super Junior was the first group to ever hold 100 concerts back in 2014, and there have been dozens more since then. So, I don't think you will run out of Super Junior things to watch for a very long time. LOL

Super Junior are one of the Godfather's of Kpop and they have always been ahead of their time. They have such a wide range of songs and styles that they appeal to almost everyone, you just have to find your jam. When "Sorry Sorry" came out no one was doing what Super Junior was doing and the sound and style of the music was so new and trendy that it caught on like wildfire. And that's pretty much what Super Junior has been doing ever since.

For many years Super Junior even had their own record label -- Label SJ -- which was under SM Entertainment, but also more independent, so they were able to collaborate with other Kpop artists outside of SM and even non-Kpop artists such as Latin artists like Reik and Leslie Grace.

The members currently range in age from 42-35.(During "Sorry Sorry" they were 26-21) That's why they have a more mature and classy look and feel to their most recent MVs and songs and that's why you often see them dressed in suites. They are all men, not boys. LOL But as you will soon discover, they are one of the most unique groups when it comes to the dynamics of the members personalities -- they truly are fun, crazy, over the top and aren't afraid to just let their freak flag fly when they interact with each other. They truly are a group of brothers that have been together for so many years that nothing is off limits and they don't hide their true selves from the cameras. LOL

Super Junior are known for their story based MVs, their catchy choreography and their goofy fun concepts. Some of their other songs you should check out are  "Danger" by Super Junior-D&E;  "Black Suit" by Super Junior; and Super Junior-M's "Super Girl". (Super Junior-M is Super Junior's Mandarin sub-unit, so, if you react to them, maybe consider reacting to the Chinese/Mandarin versions of the songs because that's the original version. Fun fact: The whole reason why EXO and NCT have Chinese sub-units is because Super Junior pioneered the concept and became the very first Kpop group to  actively promote in China.)

SJ are legends in the industry and they have paved the way for almost everything you see in the Kpop industry today. They set the standard for how Kpop is promoted around the world. They are also the first group to have serious roles in all the other entertainment industries -- setting the standard on how a Kpop star branches out into all parts of the industry. They are not only singers and dancers but members are musicians, composers, songwriters, lyricists, music and video producers, TV and movie actors, stage actors, models, radio DJs/ hosts, variety show hosts/MCs, authors, etc. Pretty much anything we think of as a standard part of the Kpop industry was created because of them. They were the first Kpop group to have non-Korean members, the first group to have dedicated sub-units and the first Kpop group to have a sub-unit that focused on producing songs in Mandarin for the Chinese audience.

yayy, we're finally doing this 😄 they're the first boy group that i fell for. I'm sure you'll enjoy their music as well as their humor (aka chaos) when you reach the guide 😉
