Ben I think that’s you

It‘s so stupid, just let people like what they like! It‘s like shaming girls for liking football and videogames

i hateee this “trend” with a burning passion!!!! i think that by calling all these men “performative” just for liking these specific things, people enforce toxic masculinity back on them again by punishing them for doing what they like. obviously there are men who are being performative about this but let’s not forget about the ones that just genuinely enjoy these things. ppl are just creating a new stereotype and stereotypes are ALWAYS harmful.

I'm predicting a lumberjack/flannel/outdoorsy manly guy trend in like 3-4 months

My opinion on this is that life is a constant performance either way. However, I think it’s weird to make fun of guys who say they like to listen to Clairo, Beabadoobee, Lauvey, Frank Ocean etc and accuse them of not actually listening to them. Because why wouldn’t they? These artists have millions and millions of streams on Spotify and are as mainstream as it gets. Those guys are quite literally not performing they just like what is mainstream rn  🤷🏻‍♀️ the only instance where I would make fun of them was if they tried to act like those are underground artists. ALSO can we stop pretending that matcha is „overconsumption core“ (or whatever you call it) as if it’s not just a normal green tea. My Asian grandma gave me this since I was 11 (don’t do that, now I’m highly caffeine dependent) and now ppl give me funny looks when I say I like matcha 😭

the guys i know who wore crop tops and plaid skirts in 2019 are girls now

Yall…..you are in a cage of your own design. Just enjoy the things you enjoy

Trends are not uniformly about preforming for women or men, sometimes they are a mixture of things for lots of people. Please go outside, I am begging you all

23:07 the mere uttering of the word "homestuck” felt like a punch in the chest, you are the LAST person i would've expected to be into homestuck WHAT

Why does everything have to be so gendered ? I agree im sure some cis men are "preforming" to attract others but to be frank, thats in all genders? Theres girls and guys who may dress/act certain ways to attract others but that doesn't mean every guy or girl who likes or acts the same as those people intentions? Am a trans guy so this is from my lens, guys should be allowed to be comfy, cis or trans, what they look or like doesnt define their gender

I lowk love listening to these before school so ty Ben 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️

Also as a female, seeing a “performative” male in public dosent exactly mean anything special to me. Like if some guys drinking his matcha and reading a book while listening to beabadoobe i dont think of it as any more than like “I should start reading again and drinking matcha I miss when I did that” or something

Women want genuine men , men find this out n say oh so I will pretend to be genuine! Instead of just being themselves and being decent to people it not hard.

As a woman, yeah…I would’ve fallen for the matcha-cardigan-book trick… 😔

"and had a little cardigan" is it yellow?

I’ve been waiting for the performative male take on the performative male Discourse™

Honestly as a woman, before knowing what I know now, I definitely found that archetype quite attractive, my type in men has always been the artsy/indie types who are into creative hobbies and underground music and movies. Generally tho I'd like that to be authentic to said person so performative males, knowing that it's just a facade a lot of the time aren't exactly my thing.

The difference is, we can tell when you are genuine

my university is literally having a performative male contest 😂

HOMESTUCK ME- gets shot in the back of the head 53 times

everything men do is for each other lmao

TWO IN ONE DAY?! HELL YEAH!
