Honestly I think finding a perplexing bedrock cube and then being suddenly teleported home (not spawn, but home) is weird and creepy in its own right.

I like how the faceless villager spawns specifically in a corrupted area so it isnt as frustrating as a dweller spawning everywhere and adds a looming threat to exploring villages

I’m fairly certain the “tapping sound” in the bedrock structure was the sound of your torches breaking behind you.

i didnt see anyone else mentioning this, but i think the red block village is a reference to an old minecraft arg that was deleted by the uploader. there was an episode with the same fuzzy red blocks and floaty villagers. doubt it matters but thats why the blocks were so different than expected from a mod like this

25:11 The mod keeps a checklist of the things a house would have (ie being enclosed, a door and some windows) and waits for the player to meet the requirements where it labels it as a “house”, allowing for certain events like glass breaking or the door to be replaced with an eye or the teleportation to occur

38:36 This painting was made by a Japanese artist that's titled "I Can No Longer be a Bride". The artist is female, and was a victim of SA. In Japanese culture, women who are victims as SA are considered "impure", and makes nobody want to be in a relationship with them. Either that, or it's super hard to find anyone supporting them.

This mod is inspired by something called Snapshot Null, one of the first ever Minecraft arg (for example the red glitchy village).

15:16 that sound isn't even from the mod. That's a genuine sound that is in minecraft by default. I'll never understand what mojang was thinking when they made the cave ambience.

I was actually much more uncomfortable by you doing Deku’s voice than by the game

What also makes the jumpscare at 34:10 even MORE impactful and interesting is that it wasnt just random, the entity didnt do anything UNTIL you started fucking arround with their house to break on the back, its such a nice detail and i love it.

i genuinely love your avatar's occasional bits of wacky animation, like when his hands become randomly big and move quickly, its very Smiling Friends

I think it helps that the entity and faceless villager MOVE like someones controlling them. It weirdly unnerved me more because, knowing this is single player, there’s a “wrongness” to it. Like no one else should be here. A small detail that I absolutely LOVE.

7:02 "Footage lags here a little soz."
proceeds to run at less than 1fps.

Patience is an important part in suspension of disbelief
Doki Doki Literature Club starts with multiple warnings that its a horror game but waits approximately 3 hours of gameplay before laying the first SLAP on you and flipping the whole script

39:12 Would it comfort you to know that you were being chased very slowly by a monster the entire time you were in that maze?

Honestly these mods miss so much obvious potential.  All it would take to get people on edge is a split second of “did I just see a player’s nametag?” Like I’m sure everyone has thought at least once while playing singleplayer  Or a weird tunnel dug into the side of a hill, maybe with an empty chest. Things that are just SLIGHTLY off, but able to be written off as a trick of the eye or a quirk of the game. None of these mods ever have their “entities” just sit back at the edge of your view and try to break line of sight if you spot them, there’s no subtlety at all. Just big red buildings and jumpscares. The encounters don’t feel like real encounters they feel like orchestrated setpieces. Early versions of Minecraft and Source games have this sort of vibe where you feel cut off, but also like you night not be COMPLETELY alone.

Most of the unease in minecraft comes from how isolated you are, how uncanny the world is, how the world is so vast that something COULD be out there, but may not be. Nothing ever capitalizes on that and goes for the cheap scares instead. Never any mystery or ambiguity, it’s all just in-your-face.

This mod reminds me of the shit I would do to mess with people as an admin on my friend's server when I was a kid. Randomly setting it to night time, giving them jump height or slow walk speed for like 3 seconds to confuse them, world edit to put them in a box or to change near stone to silverfish stone, or that one plugin that let you transform into players and mobs, I'd appear behind them using /invis, and then the second they would see me I'd disappear. Gosh, I was a menace.

Something I noticed about the red villages is that they're not generated like normal villages. Normal villages are generated by a jigsaw while those ones seem to just be a normal structure that was on a flat plain, hence the big platforms it built.

I love the bit at 33:23 where your character is slowly slipping down the pillar as you keep talking. Really funny.
