Penny lane slander is diabolical

Penny Lane in B is a straight up liberty. Comfortably one of McCartney's greatest ever songs.

Magical Mystery Tour: (1:24)
The Fool on the Hill: (6:25)
Flying: (12:22)
Blue Jay Way: (15:52)
Your Mother Should Know: (22:22)
I Am the Walrus: (26:08)
Hello, Goodbye: (33:41)
Strawberry Fields Forever: (39:44)
Penny Lane: (47:58)
Baby, You're a Rich Man: (59:01)
All You Need Is Love: (1:03:07)

That streak of songs between I Am The Walrus to All You Need Is love is in my opinion the greatest run of songs in any album.

Penny Lane is the musical version of a Norman Rockwell painting. Brilliant!

You need to know that "All You Need Is Love" was performed and recorded LIVE for the world's first international satellite broadcast EVER! It was viewed by millions of people globally. They played with a live orchestra conducted by their producer George Martin. It's a pretty momentous record.

Absolutely love Ringo's drumming on all of this. Especially Strawberry Fields.

Mythical refresh pull

I Am the Walrus is hands down my personal favorite Beatles song

Your take on Penny Lane is crazy

the "boost in energy" you reference 1 minute into Strawberry Fields is in fact the splice point between two unique takes of the song with different feels. The first minute was sped up from its key in A major, and the rest was slowed down from B major, meeting roughly in the middle, but the pitch still modulates at that splice point (to preserve tempo) as well as the whole instrument catalog changing at that moment in time–something you can do today really easily with computers, but on a song back then it just sounds crazy. The first part (take 7) was much more acoustic with the guitar and light feel, but by the time they were recording the second part (take 27), the sound of the song had expanded to a much more orchestral song as you hear.

I should also mention it's widely considered the first time a pop song was created splicing two completely different arrangements together–So kudos to you for catching onto that

I am The walrus is a slow churning nightmare that's somehow blissful. It's creepy. It's beautiful chaos!

The 'Magical Mystery Tour' is a richly associative conception that encompasses an actual trip (on a bus), a drug trip, and, primarily, death. The Beatles' manager, Brian Epstein, died unexpectedly (drugs) between Sgt. Pepper and MMT. The Beatles were flabbergasted and literally adrift after this devastating loss. The first side of the album, Magical Mystery through Walrus (Your Mother Should Know is a possible exception) is a meditation on death, dying, and other states of consciousness. The voice overdub you hear speaking intermittently through the closing moments of Walrus is from a BBC radio production of King Lear, Shakespeare's darkest play. The Beatles claimed innocence about its inclusion, but the album's pointed death references, from the opening track's "Dying to take you away," through Shakespeare's, "What, is he dead?" are unmistakenly pointed and intentional.

Strawberry Fields was a edit of take 7 and take 26, with take 26 coming in on the second chorus, at "going to", thats why the strings come in all of a sudden; the crazy instrument used in Baby, You''re A Rich Man is called a clavioline

Piano is mainly Paul! He was really good

Blue Jay Way - George was staying in a house in Blue Jay Way in Hollywood in August 1967. He was waiting for his friends Derek and Joan to arrive but they were delayed, lost in the fog. Fans went on to believe that Harrison was telling them not to 'belong', ie to the Establishment.

“These sounds are goofy”

That’s the start of  "La Marseillaise" 🇫🇷

15:10 The Magical Mystery Tour had a complimentary television special which is kind of an trainwreck. Now trainwrecks are interesting, especially acid drenched ones like this. but if you aren't into that kind of thing I recommend checking out the I Am The Walrus video which is a representative highlight from the special. Hard Day's Night and Help both have movies that are worth watching however, as is the animated Yellow Submarine film.

Baby You're a Rich Man grew on me. It is now one of my favorite songs.
