You can also price low and people won't buy because they wonder what is wrong with it - or you. Happened to me.

The part of your presentation that impressed me most, by far, was when you said, "That's a five-thousand dollar painting.  There wasn't the slightest hint of doubt or lack of conviction in your voice.  I wouldn't have the nerve to say, "Would you take three thousand for it?"  I'm still in my student phase, but I'm looking forward to doing what you just did -- I'd rather paint ten or fifteen superb paintings a year than nickel and dime myself to death.  Indeed, I am hoping to make artwork that I'm so pleased with that I don't want to sell it.  But for the right price. . .

Linear inch is adding up the total inches of the painting and times it by whatever pricing you think will sell. So for example, you have a 16" x 20" canvas, you add 16+20=36" then times that by what you want to charge. In this example we will use $10 per linear inch. So 36x10=360. So you would price your artwork at $360 for a 16" x 20" painting. Hope that makes sense.

Good information.  One thing to consider (you briefly mentioned) is the cost of entering shows.  A weekend show entry fee can be as high (or higher) as $300-$400 and if you need to rent a tent and/or need accommodation, then it can get pretty pricey.  There's two sides to this:  Know you consistently sell at those shows OR have enough in the bank to give a show a try - speculate to accumulate.

I have certain paintings that I just love more than others and I want to up the price based on that alone. I almost HATE to sell them and I figure that if I do sell them I at least got a lot more money for them.

This is really good advice. I started doing acrylic paintings and I love doing it. I have about 50 of them and they are great. Now I am trying to figure how and where to sell them and you are helping me. THANK YOU.
