Everyone kept telling me I had to listen to Black Sabbath, so I decided to go all the way back to the beginning — first album, first song: “Black Sabbath.”
This wasn’t just music… this felt like the opening scene of a dark world you can’t escape from. Eerie, cinematic, slow, heavy, and ominous — I can hear how this sound became the foundation of Heavy Metal as we know it.
Headed by the Prince of Darkness himself, Ozzy Osbourne, this track feels more like a horror film than a song — and now I finally understand why Black Sabbath is considered one of the most important bands in music history.
In this reaction, I break down what I’m hearing, what I’m feeling, and how this song changed my entire perception of where metal came from.
If you’re a lifelong Sabbath fan or someone discovering them for the first time — tap in.

It was Black Sabbath, and Black Sabbath was the 1st song they played. It was their 1st American tour.
Needless to say, we were floored. They blew our minds along with everybody at the Paramount in Seattle.
Cool memories 😎

guitarist Tony Iommi lost the tips of two of his fingers in an industrial accident. his doctor told him he'd probably never play again, but a coworker showed him Django Reinhardt, legendary Jazz guitarist who paralyzed half his hand in a fire.
that gnarly descending pulse in the last part is bass guitar. Geezer's tone is monstrous.
HAND OF DOOM
SNOWBLIND
anything off the first 6 you can't go wrong
Written using the tritone, or "devil's interval," a dissonant musical interval spanning three whole tones. This interval, once avoided in medieval music and linked to the occult. Historically shunned for its unsettling quality, leading to its historical nickname diabolus in musica (devil in music) due to its perceived ominous quality in medieval music.
