What a fabulous episode. I have a bag that I bought in Chinatown about 12 years ago that has the MRT map on it. Very out of date now. Thank you so much for this; finding wonder every day indeed!
We used Keppel once when we used the Eastern and Oriental Express for our 10th wedding anniversary and they closed ot a couple of months later. Stunning building
Really love the bimbling about style of your neighbourhood videos. Cool way to see places tourists wouldn't normally go, so we can get ideas about seeing the real side of Singapore! When looking on G Maps of the area you were we spotted "99 Old Trees Durian" not far away - sounds interesting!
I pronounce it CAN-toe-ment or CAN-tuh-ment. I used to attend Gan Eng Seng School when it was situated just behind the Spottiswoode Estate. The building is still there right on top of the hill overlooking the railway station.
We had just moved the school from Anson Road (where Icon Village is now) and the school fences haven’t quite been put up yet so sometimes the football will fly over to the railway station and we’d joke that we had better take our passports along during PE so that we can go retrieve the ball whenever it flew over as the railway station and line were Malaysian territory back in the day
I do love the SCCC as it shows how the Chinese culture in Singapore has evolved into something distinct from that in China, Hong Kong or Taiwan. Very interesting place.
Hello! Haven't commented for quite a while. My apologies. 😁 In any case, and for you information, the pinkish/orangey coloured 2-storey wooden/brick building/house along the old railway tracks, has since gone now, in Tanjong Pagar Railway Station (video: 1min53secs & 3mins9secs mark) is the old signal & railway siding control building.
Hi Millie 🙂 I'm wondering if you could help me? We are New Zealanders & coming to Singapore in a few months. I'm really curious about how many Hawker Centers & Shopping Centers are worth visiting?
Funnily enough places in the UK named after Prince Edward /the later Duke of Windsor are quite rare, whether because of his short reign due to abdication or because he was essentially a traitor to the Realm. 😳 Hong Kong likewise has a road named after him, following his 1922 tour of the colonies.
Miss taking the trains between Singapore and KL as a kid especially for Chinese New Year visiting to KL. The night sleeper trains are the best. I could just sleep through the whole journey and reach KL in the morning. The rocking motion by the train just made me slept soundly lol.
Thank you for showing us around parts of Singapore as sometimes we are a bit lazy to wonder around.
