One of my all time favorite albums in my own opinion, glad to hear your opinion on this album too! much love fam, showing love from chile.

if you ever ask yourself “what instrument is that?” with rage against the machine, the answer is guitar.

The Monk, Thích Quảng Đức, on the cover self-immolated on June 11, 1963 to protest the treatment of the Monks by the Roman Catholic church in Vietnam....😢

They used to put "No samples, keyboards or synthesizers used in the making of this record" on the CDs and Vinyls because people thought that all of those odd sounds could not just be guitars or basses

I think Zack's vocals are the perfection addition in a live setting, but you just cant get the same hype conveyed over a studio recording.

First, love the honesty. Also, in your opinion of repetition being unnecessary and taking away from the music, that is always a possible outcome of repetition.

But repetition is the mother of all learning. It moves information into long-term memory. If you are writing lyrics in a high-intensity rock band, and your message is a complex concept with a learning curve, getting all those head-banging fans to not only hear the music but also learn something important is going to take repetition. Pick a phrase that is easy to remember, that can carry a deeper meaning when reviewed, and implant it.

So, next time you react to RATM, don't stop at just the effect of the repetition on the musicality of the song; ask WHY that repetition was chosen.

"It's the repetition of affirmations that leads to belief. And once that belief becomes a deep conviction, things begin to happen." -Muhammad Ali

I understand your criticism about the lack of quality and dynamism, but I think what makes this album special is that raw and almost improvised sound, not something carefully crafted and clean from a studio, but more like 4 crazy young lads jamming at full volume in a small garage dont giving a fuck, pure energy and a release of rage

Hands down one of the strongest debut albums ever made 🤘 what a band!

LOL wild take!  Zack should have absolutely ended Know Your Enemy just as he did.  It was a powerful song 30 years ago, and it still holds up today.  Great job, though, and thank you!

Patience is a virtue. Your anger is a gift.

You have the experience (neither advantage or disadvantage) of hearing lyrical rappers first, but you have to remember this came out not only in 1992, but immediately after the Rodney King besting/officers acquitted/riots of LA. It was a very charged time & Rage gave us (white teens of suburbs) both amazing rock & lyrics that gave voice to our shock & horror. Because a lot of us weren't really taught the history right. We didn’t have the internet. We used the dewey decimal system & microfilm at the library. Rage woke a lot of us up

I love this album just as it is all around, but if you want to hear Zack doing some of the more dense, rap-style lyricizing instead of the simpler more punk-like style here, you can hear his contributions on several Run The Jewels tracks.

But I also think you might not be familiar with all Zack's references and doubles. It's actually deeper here than you think. It's easy to miss because the surface message is so in your face, but there are layers here too.

Fun fact tom Morello the guitarist is best friends with serj tankian from system of a down and they have a non profit called axis of justice that raises awareness and funds for multiple charities through music events

With all due respect young blood, this one's not about the music, it's about the message. Sure the guitars be fire, but if THAT'S what you wanna talk about with everything that's being said on this album, you honestly reek of privilege.

The middle singer part in "Know Your Enemy" was sung by Maynard James Keenan, the frontman for Tool, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer.  One of the best to ever do it.

Fun fact : in Christmas 2009 Killing in the name of went to number #1 in UK, it was a protest against all the Christmas number ones from the X-Factor TV show.

Wake Up was in The Matrix!
First time I heard the song and fell in love with it and the band.

This has been onevof my favorite groups since the first time I heard them. I still remember the first time I heard this album, I was right out of high school in 2001 and a friend lent me this album. I put it in driving home and I think I had it on repeat for a good few months. I had never heard their sound before and I was hooked! I love their first 3 albums but, in my opinion, Evil Empire is their best. Some great hooks, the lyrics are 🔥 and Tom Morello's guitar work on that album is just incredible. I highly recommend checking out Evil Empire if you enjoyed this album 💯

Even though I don’t agree with your take on Zack, I respect it 1000%.  I rather have someone who is genuine and honest than someone who goes crazy over everything they hear just to get views ..,   That’s why I always look forward to watching what you bring to the table!! Keep it up man

One of the greatest albums of all time.  As a freshman in college at the time of its release, it was an eye-opener, with a literal reading list that opened my mind to ideas (whether I agreed or disagreed, I learned something).
